That screams offseason acquisition to me then unless Chicago is insistent on unloading him this deadline.  I'm much more ok with giving up Cowser if it's an offseason deal, because we can sign someone

That is a little much for me. I would want Robert coming back with Crochet if we are giving up that much.  I would be open to Cowser and perhaps one guy from OP's group for Crochet.

I’m not getting on you, but why would CWS from their perspective trade Crochet for less than what was offered for Cease?

I’m among this trade all day and twice on Sunday.  It’s not a robbery. Just fair.

Where are you getting that we offered that much? All they ended up getting was MLB #85 and a few guys lower than that. If they passed on Cowser that was extremely dumb of them and if I were a fan I would hope they don't pass on him again as his stock has risen.

always love when people nit pick at time frames when there is an entire year, i can pop up a season stat total between Cowser & Carrol and say Cowser is the 100x better player but that is just not the case.

There were close to 1k pages of posts in the offseason, across two boards, for the same trade for Cease. Crochet has the extra half season of control and an extra postseason.

It's closer than the vote totals seem to indicate IMO.  I honestly wouldn't be against it because I do think Crochet is top shelf talent.  And it does cash out some strong/buried assets too.

I landed on appreciating what Cowser adds all around vs. questioning the bump he'd provide for 2024.

Too many eggs in one basket for me.  Usually you either go quantity or quality.  This feels like both quality and quantity.  You are trading away 3 possibly 4 guys that can go directly into their starting lineup.  You never see a 4 for 1 with that much major league ready guys.  It usually 1 or 2 major league guys then a few lottery tickets with some upside.   Cease got you one major league ready prospect, a 21 year old decent pitcher in AA, A young toolsy outfielder in A ball and a 29 year old relief pitcher in the majors.

I wouldn't give up both Cowser and Stowers in the same deal.  I know we have a glut of left-handed OF but trading two would leave us with little depth.  I'd rather give Stowers a longer look than deal him as the 4th piece in a deal with Cowser when we have other guys of similar (limited) value.  I would be willing to headline a package with Cowser, though, for a high end pitcher like Crochet.

Something tells me that given all of the smoke around Cease in the offseason that there may be some fatigue between these front offices.  Seems unlikely that they make a deal if they weren't able to see eye to eye a few months ago.

Look what the White Sox asked for and then what they ended up getting.  Two completely different things.  They got one top prospect, two nice lottery tickets in A ball and a decent reliever.

      Good call but I do not think Tarik Skubal or Garrett Crochet are Justin Verlander or Gerrit Cole or Zack Greinke or Corbin Burnes, and think Elias/Sigbot have good taste assessing the elite vs. the very good.

      There is no fair market value for aces.  Pitching aces are an extremely limited commodities and teams will do what they can to obtain them.  Having an ace pitcher in the postseason is a big advantage.  If the O's had 2, that would be a huge advantage.  Very high demand and limited supply means price will skyrocket.  I would probably do Basallo for Crochet and Holliday for Skubal.  Fans of those teams would probably say those offers are jokes.  Whether in contract price or prospect value, the price is always more than you would rationally think.

      I think I would too, but Eflin's an interesting guy to watch play out.     1.5 years ago Eflin was one of the "better Kyle Gibsons" TBR put 3/40 on while Elias stuck to 1-year deals. Assuming he is moved, TBR will have paid Eflin 1.5 years/$18 million, gotten a year of All-Star performance plus this meh 2024 so far, and whatever they get from some other Club that will give up prospects to pay him 1.5 years/$22 million. The 11-11-18 payout schedule that gave a clue Eflin's odds of remaining a Ray would be lower in Year 3, and means about ~$7 million through July 30.    October I'm double counting months so the Orioles would get an October premium 4 out of 8 regular + post season "months".     TBR can look to McClanahan, Springs, Baz, Rasmussen, Pepiot and Taj Bradley being 6 guys for the first 5 games of 2025 so I am almost certain Eflin will move. If DET holds Skubal, you don't trust Crochet for innings, and TOR-TEX keep their guys, he's close to the best available and kills 2 birds with one stone lining up the Burnes backfill for 2025. The division thing makes it more of an underdog than any other deal, but I think Eflin is a medium needle mover for the SP3 role come October.    That said, Elias has a blank slate of a pitching staff in Bradish's absence to figure out Game 3 as a bullpen game, or with another Eflin-Bassitt level guy.

      My opinion is that they won’t trade any of Holliday, Mayo, Kjersted or Basallo.  I think he looks at Mayo to replace Mountcastle, Kjersted to replace Santander, and adding Holliday and Basallo to the lineup.  I think they will trade anyone else.  That is why I don’t expect to get a number 3 or better starter.

      I haven't seen Basallo in person but have seen Mayo and Holiday quite a bit here in Norfolk. I believe all 3 will be above average major leaguers but Mayo is the one I'm not getting rid of. I have seen a lot of good players come through here in the last 40 years (even when they were with the Mets) and nobody has swung the bat quite like him. Waltimore is no problem for Mayo, if it's not 3rd they are going to find a place for him to play.
