At least he had the common decency to get out after 2 pitches. Mountcastle didn't even do that.

I don't get it why guys complain about hitters swinging at strikes.

Are you supposed to just fall behind in the count?  How often does that work out?

I'm guessing here but I think the average result when a guy swings at a first pitch strike is better than the outcome when they fall behind 0-1.

Better to fall behind in the count than to swing at a pitcher's pitch, even if it is in the strike zone.

I don’t think you can logically justify most sports fans’ hot takes

Because not all strikes are made the same. That was a borderline strike low and on the inside corner. And Mounty did exactly what you’d expect a RHH to do with that kind of pitch. Weakly rolled over it.

The offense continues to be all or nothing. 64 runs in the last 13.5 games, with 10 of them coming in the loss against Boston. Doesn’t help that your second best player has been below replacement level for almost 2 months.

It’s not a hot take to say don’t swing at pitchers pitch and aggression against pitchers taking advantage of your aggression is a poor approach.
