One thing I noticed and don’t care for is…….” We have Bautista coming back so we don’t need to sign All-star FA closer “  and “ since we have Elfin coming back we dont need resign Burnes “ and “ we have Bradish returning from injury so why we need another FA starter ? “

My point is that we can’t count on Bautista , Bradish , Wells , Means & others to return and pick up where they left off .  I advocate Elias to strike hard and fast during upcoming Free Agency season .

It would be foolish to discount Burnes value to this team. He needs to be brought back unless the cost becomes absurd.

Okay, here's my take

1. Something is wrong with coaching/management. You don't see almost every player in your lineup dip below career norms for four months of the season without something being wrong. I have never thought Hyde was the guy. His in game decisions are not always that great. I wonder if it's a clubhouse leadership thing or something. Ben hit on it last night before the broadcast. They needed to score first to take the tension off of them. Hyde managed that last game scared, pulling Efflin after four innings and only one run given up. I bet the players could tell that too.

2. Do everything possible to sign Burnes (or a comparable free agent pitcher) to a long term deal. Definitely make the QO and take the pick if he wants to leave (and I really can't blame him)

3. Make the QO to Santander, but no long term offer. If he takes it, fine, but he comes up short in big situations too often. For some reason, he can only hit well from May-August.

4. We need one more "big", consistent hitter. Target that guy in free agency. Position really doesn't matter because we have alot of position flexibility, but an OF would be preferable. We need a veteran presence that can help these young guys when the going gets tough, especially if they choose to keep Hyde.

5: Keep the Ryans, but make sure they platoon

Last year some experts were saying we were still two years away, but yet somehow Hyde got us there.

I'm sure "some experts" said that but the 2022 team went 83-79, I'm not sure why they would think they were two years away from being a playoff team.

They will be a strong team and probably make the playoffs again. This week's result doesn't change that.

But, I think there have been some meaningful obstacles thrown at the team's contention window. Adley's collapse, Holliday/Mayo's failed debuts, pitching health struggles, a general thinning of the prospect herd, and now an accelerated "can't win in the playoffs" narrative bomb.

For an almost two year stretch from summers '22-'24, basically everything except those few games against Texas was coming up roses. Now they are going to have to work through some muck.

This week's result doesn't change that.

Maybe not but the performance over the past 3 months does, they lose Burns & Santander, they will not make the playoffs next year, like it or not we are in at least a mini rebuild next year

Who thinks Bradish is coming back next year? He had TJ surgery mid season, on average 18 month recovery, he will be back for 2026

Defense and pitching need to be priorities this offseason. We need to get Mayo and Holliday ready for a full season.

But all of these guys need to put in work.

I agree … Plus change the hitting philosophy

This whole change the hitting philosophy is such bs.

The Orioles were one of the highest scoring teams in the league. They had excellent team wide statcast numbers. They were 7th in BA, 4th in runs scored, 11th in OBP, 3rd in slugging, 5th in wOBA and 3rd in wRC+.

Would you rather have the Royals offense? The Royals were 20th in wRC+, 19th in OBP, 10th in BA, 12th in slugging, 13th in runs scored.

KC was the third hardest team to strikeout and while that was better than the Os, the Os were 13th best in that category.

So which offense would you rather have?

Now, do the Os need to teach their hitters to tweak their approach with 2 strikes? Sure. Do they need to do a better job of situational hitting?  Absolutely. But to say they need totally need to change their philosophy is absurd.

I think it’s way too early to know if the results will be the same. I will say, I want to go full youth movement. No more log jams. Let these guys sink or swim and grow together:

CF Mullins

3B Westburg

C Adley (healthy 🤞)

SS Gunnar

LF Cowser

DH O’hearn

RF Kjerstad

2B Holliday

1B Mayo

I actually think our bullpen could be quite good and I think we definitely need to sign a top line starter.

Ok I’m changing this a little. Don’t know O’Hearn is worth the 8 mil.. Maybe we can replace. I’m actually pretty juiced at the potential of this and all of these guys are overdue for regular ABs together.

CF Mullins

3B Westburg

C Adley

SS Gunnar

LF Cowser

DH O’hearn/Mayo

1B Mountcastle

RF Kjerstad

2B Holliday

Util: Mayo (regular DH platoon, spot starts in the field, Mateo (speed/defense)

I agree with a lot of this. I’ve been filling my lineups with what we have, but I think this team lacks a position player leader that will give professional ABs and that’s “been there”. I do think that could be helpful come playoffs.

I’m also coming around on O’Hearn and Mountcastle coming back and platooning, seeing what they can give you. There’s space for them and our position player talent.
