Kubel is a bad option unless they're pitching in some salary relief and not asking for much of anything back. He's a bad defensive left fielder who's likely to post a .750-ish OPS (.750 in '10, .766 in '11, and .757 on the road in '12). Over the last three years combined he's been worth less than one rWAR.

So, if the deal is Kubel and $4M for, like, I don't know Pat Egan, I might do that.

Wouldn't be the worst move in the world, but man, I would prefer Reynolds I think.

I would absolutely prefer Reynolds. Similar salaries, don't have to trade anything to acquire him, and with Reynolds you can cross your fingers and hope his defense at first is real. You can't pretend Kubel plays good defense anywhere.

According to Rosenthal, O's are still interested in Kubel:

Sources: #Orioles pursuing trade for #Diamondbacks' Kubel. Talks not at advanced stage. Orioles also like #Tigers' Porcello.

McLouth, Reimold #Orioles' current LF/DH options. Betemit another option at DH. #Diamondbacks' Kubel owed $7.5M with a $1M buyout.

It makes no sense to me unless they are trading Betemit.

Agreed. Betemit + [random minor leaguer that no one has heard of]. Thats fine with me. Anyone off of the 25 man other than Betemit for him makes no sense to me.
