Garcia is undoubtedly our best option for that 5th starter spot

Lets not get ahead of ourselves. He's a temporary stop gap until Chen gets back. They could send Gausman back down because of innings but there isn't any doubt who I want starting between the two of them. Garcia is good for five innings, that's just over half a game.

He got the job today and that's what counts.

Late June could be interesting, with the returns of both Chen and Wada.

It was less than a week ago when Garcia had given up a 2 solo home runs in the first 2 innings against the Yankees, and ......... well, let's just say that he wasn't very popular around here.

Wada better work on getting AAA hitters out first, but he could step into Patton's spot in the pen if he doesn't wake up. Who knows, maybe he'll come down with a mysterious ailment?

Very true. I should have said he's our best option until Chen gets back.

That must have been a very short period of unpopularity. That was the night he outpitched CC.

It wasn't short, because it wasn't just because of the 2 home runs at the beginning of that game. After a very good season debut against the Angels, Garcia had 2 consecutive losses in which he gave up 12 hits, 3 walks, and 8 runs in 9.33 innings:

Add to that the 2 home runs in the first 2 innings against the Yankees, and he was being bombarded. Go back and take a look at some of the comments in this thread after his 3rd start, as well as that day's game thread before he settled down over the next few innings.

It was a much needed and much appreciated brilliant pitching performance. Thank you Freddy, from the fans, and the bullpen.

Hammel also went 8 innings on Monday to bookend the 4-game series with "Eights" by the starting pitching.

Garcia is very impressive when he is "on".

He gets guy scratching their head at what is coming next and that splitter is just flat out filthy.

He could absolutely stick around, even once Chen comes back, if he keeps mixing it up like that.

Gausman might just pitch until Chen comes back and then he gets sent back down and Garcia stays on as the fifth guy.

Of course that depends on how they pitch from this point out as well buy it's good to see Garcia still has his A game left on occasion.

We all know our problems with soft tossing lefties.

Some teams have big time problems with junk ball, slow it down, keep you off balance vets. He's a good guy to pitch behind Tillman or Gausman.
