At the Winter Meetings. Maybe Dan told them to go pack sand a week ago from the comfort of his recliner.

They certainly can afford him, but who knows what the Braves want in return. There may be an offer from Dan that they like and are just waiting until the last minute to see if they can get a better one. I just think it's unfair to say that $14.5 for a one year rental, that is going to cost us players as well, is too much money. It's obviously not. We don't know the true price until he is traded to the Orioles or someone else.

Right, the money isn't a problem.

FromESPN

MLB.com’s Mark Bowman tweets Monday the Orioles, Rangers and Padres are continuing to show interest in Upton, a free agent after next season who will make a very reasonable $14.5 million in 2015.

Expect VP of baseball operations John Hart to drive a hard bargain. The Braves believe they should get more for Upton than they got from the Cardinals for Heyward, reports Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com.

A few of us geniuses pegged him at that value pages ago. Which is why we found it so insane people actually wanted to give up Bundy for him. There just isn't much excess on Upton's contract. Although the article doesn't include the value of the QO.

I'd be ok with this as long as Upton signed long term...

You want to pay Upton 20m+ a season long term? For that to work, the O's are going to need to be getting a lot of excess value in other areas going forward. Paying league minimum and getting 2 WAR+ production. Because we aren't going to have much money to buy production, because Upton will be eating it up. Which means, with Upton on the team, you're going to need Schoop.
