Orioles avoided arbitration with... (leave some very big differences as well)

From my faulty memory, even when the teams win the arb case - the player still gets a raise.

Not what they wanted but do get a raise.

So when the stats come out that teams win this % of the time and the players win this % of the time is misleading.

One of the important factors the arbitrators are told to consider is service time, which is why pretty much everyone gets a raise. Keep in mind, most of the arbitration-eligible players are making less than they would if they were free agents, even if they do get raises.

And the team is under no obligation to offer arbitration in the first place.

Looks like the Orioles made the correct choice with Matusz.

Lefty Jerry Blevins has emerged victorious in his arbitration hearing against the Nationals, James Wagner of the Washington Post reports on Twitter. He will take home $2.4MM instead of the team’s $2.2MM submission.

Blevins, 31, had a mixed bag of a first season in D.C. He threw 57 1/3 innings of 4.87 ERA ball.
