Final cuts

Soon Hardy and Davis come back, so who goes? Webb and ?? This is going to be very interesting. Trading Matusz seemed like an obvious move, but that's not done yet so who knows.

And I completely forgot about Paredes. Does he have any options left? If not, that might mean Flaherty gets the short straw- I don't see Cabrera going anywhere.

I think Paredes is out of options, so he's probably gone. Too bad, that kid can rake.

Looks like after the opener Webb gets DFA'd or Gausman get optioned.

Has to be. Unless the Orioles are in a blowout tomorrow and one of out pitchers has a "sore arm", after the game for a DL stint.

All of this talk about Lavarnway, wonder if Wieters is progressing well?

Not a huge deal if a pitcher is removed for Davis after one game. I'm thinking the O's kept Webb as it might be easier to sneak him through waivers after Davis is back. Wouldn't read to much into having 14 pitchers on Opening Day. Now if Davis comes back and we still a have 14 pitchers afterwards, I'm right there with ya.

I doubt Webb is if he is let go stays here and goes to the minors. He would want a fresh start. I bet a team would find a MLB spot for him right away, they just didn't want to pay him his salary.

Assigning Lavarnway to the minors and keeping Clevenger was a smart move. There is hardly any difference in the two guys ability. This way Clevenger can be optioned when Wieters is ready.

I agree but all the inside talk was Lavarnway was staying, I didn't get that.

I think they would prefer he was claimed to get out from his salary.

And I was being sarcastic in general with that statement about extra pitchers. I get the roster manipulation.

When Davis comes back, one of the pitchers goes. It would not surprise me to see Gausman optioned to start regularly. We don't need a fifth starter much in the beginning, much less a sixth. When Hardy comes off the DL, either Flaherty or Cabrera goes down, both have options. When Paredes comes off, then it gets more tricky. Perhaps we lose another pitcher then.

I would hope we lose the 13th pitcher much sooner than later. The decisions that needed to be made today still loom. Matusz and or Webb traded or DFA. Or Gausman to AAA.

That still doesn't make sense to me. There aren't revocable waivers this time of year. If he cleared waivers he was off the roster. So it seems erroneous.

The team can't revoke the player being claimed, he wasn't. Manny Ramirez cleared waivers in the off season years ago while still in Boston. Webb was never released.

    • Oakland is in a weird place for sure.  If they truly are going to try to build for being good in 2028 for the big splash in Las Vegas.  Then trading for major league or even major league ready players makes little sense.  In that situation you want to trade for a large mass of highly regarded lower tier guys.  But that does not really make sense either to me.  The odds of more than one panning out is not that high.  I guess the best thing for Oakland would be sit on Miller and see how well he does for the next three years and deal him with two/three years of control left.  If he is as skilled as we think he is he would get more in return with a longer track record and health history.   Nothing makes sense to me for Oakland to trade him.  I would make a team over pay.
    • Chuck Thompson for me.  As a kid he was the voice of summer.
    • It's not just you. She was fine. Ben calls Irvin Irving, they all make mistakes. Is she the best announcer we have? Not even close. Is she as bad as people are making her out to be? Not even close. Hive mind is strong on this type of subjective topic.
    • Super encouraged that Bradish stuff looks as nasty as last year.  His metrics are even better so far: whiff% 30.4 (vs 25.9 last year), groundball% 59.1 (vs 49.1 last year).  As Big Ben mentioned, he has upped usage of 2 seamer in lieu of 4 seamer while rest of offspeed offerings are similar to last season for slider and curveball.
    • He has a lot of bad luck with injuries/illness, etc. When he's healthy, he's average at the plate and slightly above in the outfield I would say. I would definitely take him (healthy) over McKenna. Hell, McKenna went unclaimed a couple weeks ago.  Do you think Hays would go unclaimed?
    • I saw Gunnar kinda of pose after he hit it and though, "That's out" then the camera shows the outfielder standing there looking up and i was like, "Rats" then Newman made it out to be a can of corn and thoughts "Double rats." Then it become a home run! 🤦‍♂️
    • The Robo/challenge system in AAA has to help a kid with super natural knowledge of the strikezone.  Then he gets to the majors and all that goes out the window and umpires got a dinner date at Ruth Chris Steak House and the strikeouts pile up.   I want robo umps in the worse way.  I made post about wanting it 15 years ago or more.  I think they are all gone now but I wish I could find them.  We are so close to dumping the "joy" of trying to figure out what 60 year old fat dude behind the plate thinks is a strike tonight.
