Toronto really loaded up on draft picks a few years ago. That's why they could deal a bunch of prospects and still have some talent in their system. That said, the Dickey trade looks pretty awful in hindsight.

I thought it was a bad trade when it was made.

I didn't figure a guy with a "Hard" knuckleball would age as well as the normal type.

But if you have a constant stream of quality talent you don't need to trade for a Parra in the first place.

A constant stream of quality talent entering the system isn't a constant stream of quality talent at MLB level. Teams are always going to need to fill holes, and proven veteran talent is a better way of doing that than banking on minor leaguers.

But does that include veterans that are proven to be mediocre?
