One thing I've never understood about official scoring....they didn't get hits. They're not ending the play on base. If you get a single, you wind up standing safely on first base.

Those Bogaerts and that fat sack of poo from Boston in the top half of the inning weren't standing safely anywhere, they were both gunned down trying to stretch a single into a double. So how, exactly, does that work out being counted as a single? If they had both stayed at first and not advanced, that would have been a single. How do you get a single and an out on the same play? Makes no sense to me.

They recorded "hits" and reached first base safely, it's their option to then attempt to stretch it into a double and if they're gunned down like we've just witnessed (twice!), then they still get credit for the single.

Listened to the first inning driving home from work. Instead of coming home and plopping on the couch in front of the TV, I fired up the radio and spent the top of the second loading up the dishwasher (the pile in the sink was getting treacherously high).

So apparently I missed out on watching one of the greatest defensive innings in the history of baseball.

Poor me.

I'm sure I'll get to see replays eventually.
