Davis now leads the AL in RBI, with 79.

It occurs to me that if he led the league in RBI and the O's made the playoffs, he could be a viable MVP candidate. That certainly would be ironic considering all the criticism he has received. But let's not get ahead of ourselves with 55 games to play.

Not any more. I really hate Donaldson.

By the end of the year Davis will have been worth roughly 13 wins over the previous four years. I'm guessing someone is going to value him at 3-4 wins/year, maybe something like 4.5, 4, 3.5, 3, 2.5 over five years, for a total of 17.5 wins, or $123M. That's my guess, somewhere between 4/100 and 5/125. And the Orioles pick up the pick for the declined QO.

The sad thing is that even if the O's were confident that he'd produce 17.5 wins over the next 5 years, they wouldn't offer anything near 4/100 or 5/125. Peter Angelos has his own idea of what wins are worth, and it's not what the market says they are worth.

Funny stuff, right? It is so easy to be supportive AFTER things go right.

And many of us were very adamant that 1/$10m was a comically easy decision (yes) to chance that he could even be the 2012 Davis.

He's making 12 M this year. I'd offer an AAV of 16 M and dicker with the years not going more than 6.

My point was that it's not something that was only supported by hindsight. Those who wanted him non-tendered should

Look silly. It's not some unreasonable overpay that luckily worked out.

Some people would think so, though they aren't talking now.

We could have easily paid for Cruz out of the 20 million dollars spent on players that have been DFA'd

DD has had an extremely bad past 12 months

A good research project for you would be to go through the rosters of the 29 other teams over the past 3-4 year and look at all of their dead money. I'm pretty sure he Phils have about as much worthless money on the books as the Rays have payroll. Most teams could pay the salaries of several hand-picked stars for the cost of their "mistakes".
