There is only one player that I truly disliked while he was playing for the Orioles.

That player is Kevin Gregg.

Although, I admit that I admired what he did against David Ortiz and the Red Sox in Fenway Park 4 and-a-half years ago.

Very few things in baseball are as infuriating as having a really bad closer. So yes, Gregg is on my list, as is Mike Timlin. And Jeff Stone infuriated me in 1988 by dropping a routine fly ball in the 9th inning that allowed the Royals to extend the Orioles' 8-game losing streak to 9, on the way to 21.

It wasn't just that he was a bad closer.

There have been plenty of bad players (closers and otherwise) that have worn the Orioles' uniform since I started rooting for the team in October of 1971, and I didn't truly dislike any of them, except for Gregg.

Gregg's insistence that Oriole fans needed to "acquire a taste for his pitching" ...... while he was pitching as badly as he was ....... contributed greatly to my strong dislike of him while he was an Oriole.

Dang, Williamson was a very valuable arm and even part of Oriole History with pitching in a 3 pitcher no hitter.

Keep in mind, he was mind, when he showed up in the 3rd or 4th inning, the game was probably already gone.

I remember 89, he was 10-5 with 9 saves, 2.93 ERA and 117 innings of relief and appeared in 65 games.

That was actually a 4 pitcher no hitter. Milacki, Williamson, Flanagan, and Olson.

Marty Cordova. Because he used a tanning bed.

Every NL RP signed by Flanagan/Duquette and MacPhail during the dark years- For all the gripes I have about DD, I have to give him credit for being the only Orioles GM who was smart enough to realize that throwing money at overpriced NL relievers is a terrible way to build a bullpen.

Sidney Ponson- Was there one redeeming quality about this guy? He was a terrible pitcher and a crummy human being. The crazy thing is that he was able to accumulate 1700 innings in the big leagues. Of course almost 1400 of those innings were with the Orioles. He was the perfect personification of why the Orioles were so bad for so long.

Yeah...Williamson did have a few pretty good seasons.

The one reliever that I could just never stand was Terry Matthews. That guy was like throwing jet fuel on the fire.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't one of Williamson's nicknames "grab a bat," as in hitters who couldn't wait to step in the batters box against him? Mathews' nickname was "bubble butt."
