I don't know, but why does Major League Baseball have a deadline for uniform changes? Why does Major League Baseball approve uniform changes at all? I'm sure it has something to do with licensing and merchandising, but jeez. Baseball doesn't even control specs for bats or enforce rules about how far the fences are from the plate, and yet they micromanage what uniform teams wear?

The same reason your community association (if you have one) doesn't allow you to paint your shudders pink and your house poka dotted!

Yes, we know putting "Baltimore" back on the road uniforms is a small thing which in no way affects the on-field product, but it's a gesture of goodwill toward a disillusioned fanbase that feels the team has little connection with its own city. It gets tiring to see people posting over and over again that it means nothing to change the away uniform because it doesn't help the fact that the team is mediocre at best. You're right. It doesn't help the pitchers throw the ball more effectively. Nor does it help us hit the ball farther. However, the clamor for this one cosmetic change is disproportionately loud. The O's are making a concerted effort now to reconnect with the city of Baltimore. This is an easy and profitable way of doing so.

Well said. If they make the change, I will buy a Nick Markakis "Baltimore" road jersey to go along with my 1990 Cal Ripken "Orioles" home jersey. It's a little thing, but PLEASE do it!

I think they should make some changes to the uniforms while they're at it... I'm tired of the stale ass bird just standing there on the hats.

To each his own. I think the bird on black is a classic look and shouldn't be touched. But, the white vest with black t-shirt underneath isn't a bad idea, at all. Just don't give us the '70s retro orange jerseys and pants.

Unless they changed it recently, the deadline is May 31.

And, yes of course, the reason is so that the licensees know what's coming, so they can not only get the new ones ready, but also so they know to not make another 3 boatloads of the old ones. It only makes sense to have some deadline about it. When the best time is for a deadline is a different question, but there's nothing wrong with having a deadline.

I don't think that's "micromanaging what uniform teams wear", it's just having a schedule, that's all. "Micromanaging the uniform" is what they did when they made Frank not have too much white sock showing.

Quoting myself is FUN...and easier than typing the same thing over and over again!

I've said this before, and I'll say it again: be careful what you wish for. Would a "Baltimore" road jersey in plain, black block letters REALLY be an improvement? As plain as things have gotten around here, that might be what you'd get.

My proposals remain:

HOME: Matte white jersey with Orioles script, NOB and numbers in orange/black/white. Black sleeve and placket piping. Bird patch on sleeve (See below). Retain current home cap.

HOME ALTERNATE: Orange jersey with Orioles script, NOB and numbers in orange/black/white. Black sleeve and placket piping. Worn with 1966 cartoon bird cap. Bird patch on sleeve.

SUNDAY HOME ALTERNATE: 1968 throwback vest set with white cartoon bird cap with orange bill.

ROAD: Gray jersey with Baltimore script, NOB and numbers in orange/black/white. Orange placket and sleeve piping. Bird patch on sleeve. Retain current road cap.

ROAD ALTERNATE: Black jersey with Baltimore script, NOB and numbers in orange/black/white. Orange placket and sleeve piping. Bird patch on sleeve. Retain current road cap.

All jerseys continue to use MLB block numbers. NO CUSTOM NUMBER FONTS! "Baltimore" script on road jersey would be same as the 1966 script.

Wear the road alternate for Opening Day 2009, and watch the merchandise jump off the shelves!

Not such a fan of the "vest" look here. It makes it look like the team can't afford sleeves or something.

And the "all orange" uniform...

...well, let's just leave it at that. Brooks Robinson had a dream and a company, and the O's were far too happy to indulge him!

And the reason I just bought my 3.5 acres outside of the jurisdiction of any homeowner's association! I almost want to go buy an RV to park it in my yard just because I can.

Stick it to The Man!!!! :D

Let's retool...something:

all white with black piping (gray for the road unis). "orioles" home and "Baltimore" in plain block script, away. No names on the jerseys. People should look at our unis alone and know we are a flagship franchise- no horsing around like the Jays or Rays. Cartoon bird on the sleeve, an orange block "B" on the cap. Trick the whole thing out with high socks, and I think you have the making of a new "dynasty" look.

Zoning will come to you, it's just a matter of when.

Put in that Jiffy Car Wash while you still can ;-)

There is no doubt about it. My parents house was surrounded by cow pasture and cornfields for over 50 years. Two years ago it changed, and quite suddenly. Now the house and its 2+ acre lot, with once beautiful views, is surrounded by a housing development, a shopping center....and a new elementary school will soon join the clutter. The only redeeming factor, I guess, is the value of the property has more than doubled.
