4003446[/url]]Sisco got much better at throwing out runners as the season progressed' date=' so I have some optimism that he can stick behind the plate. The O's have a pretty good track record of developing catchers' defensive skills.[/quote']

Who besides Wieters since the McPhail era?

I noticed today that Baseball Prospectus has advanced stats on minor league catchers. Sisco rated at -11.3 in fielding runs above average. -6.2 framing, -3.2 throwing. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=102743

Great find with the stats. I think there's a lot of room for growth with him. If he wasn't killing it so much with the bat he'd probably be just touching Bowie last year, in his age 21 season. We wouldn't even be talking about him, but the fact that he already made it to AAA at 21 shouldn't hurt him.

From what I saw in the futures game he looked really athletic for a catcher. He's definitely not some slow, plodding type. It's probably just a matter of turning that athleticism into a good defensive C through coaching and hard work.

Which backs up what we have been hearing from those that have seen him, he just isn't very good at the role of catcher.

If he's a good enough athlete, it should make it easier.

Yes, he improved quite a bit. Buck shipped him out, and he came back the following year, much more improved and showed he could good defense at the big league level.

He was slightly better than league average throwing out runners last year (31% to 29%) but he was below average (-2 DRS) overall.

Meh....

MW had serious knocks on his defense when he was coming through the system. In 2013 Joseph was experimenting playing other positions in AA because of the knocks on his defense. He even went to winter ball that year and didn't play C at all down there. He was 27.

I wouldn't give up on a guy that just finished his age 21 season. Plus we have a history off turning these guys with defensive knocks around.

Serious knocks?

I don't think your statement is accurate.
