I would rather pay Upton 16M than Ubaldo $13M. Only question is what we have to give up to make it work for the Padres.

I wouldn't be so quick to drop Pedro. Melvin is known to go into heavy slumps at the plate. I like him fine as a fourth outfielder and possible starter in RF for next season.

Because those are the only teams that would make a trade for two months of Trumbo.

He immediately steps into the starting LF spot. 4th OF spot when Kim comes back. Maybe pushes P.Alvarez to the bench some games. Decent option for next year. How much are we giving up?

I do not get this from SD standpoint. Can't they trade Upton for a marginal prospect and eat half his salary? Then they don't have Jimenez or his salary. They can't actually want Jimenez? Can they?

The thing is other than our top tier, what is much? We just don't have it. It's a double edged sword. Can't say our system stinks then complain when we trade our 7th best prospect. Not saying you.
