I don't know why they don't go with the opener strategy more often. It's more about getting matchups than limiting innings -- whether the SP pitches first or not you can pitch them as long or short as you want. Bradish could start and pitch two innings, or pitch 6 innings out of the pen. As a guy with poor splits, Akin is better suited to come in as a reliever when they can control his matchups. -

Kyle Bradish v. Carlos Rodon is a fantastic matchup between two guys with a lot of variance where the outcomes over the long term will factor big into a bunch of divisions. Are there 0, 1 or 2 Cy Young contenders here? Are there 0, 1 or 2 serviceable pitchers here? -
Many pitchers have started out well so far this year in the system and Aberdeen has Creed, Etzel, and Vasquez all starting out hot. I would say Delmarva is our only affiliate where the position players are not performing. -
I think it's not looking great for position prospects so far, though Horvath is playing better after a slow start and Willems is off to another good start. That said, several pitchers are flashing real upside. They're a long way away, and tons of failed prospects flash upside every year, but if you believe in strength in numbers, it's encouraging on the pitching front. -
