Pedro Strop signs for 2/$11.35 plus $6.25 mm option

Strop would have been a free agent after this year, and had already signed for $5.5 mm this year, so the new contract tacks on $5.85 mm for 2018 plus the option.  This seems like a pretty team-friendly deal to me.   Since being traded to the Cubs, Strop has had a 2.68 ERA in 232 games, averaging 10.8 K/9, 3.4 BB/9, 5.5 K/9, for a total of 4.3 rWAR in 3.3 seasons.

We always bemoan the loss of Arrieta, but Strop has been very solid as well.   Fortunately, we've had other bullpen guys step up.
