Cafardo's comment about Duquette having a smaller staff and fewer scouts than most teams  ("barely enough to cover the proper territory") is interesting.   Is that due to PA's dictates or Duquette's own choices as to how to allocate his resources?

Rays center fielder Kevin Kiermaier won the Gold Glove the last two seasons, but he’s also a big fan of his competition, particularly the Orioles’ Adam Jones and the Red Sox’ Jackie Bradley Jr. “Adam is a guy who I looked up to coming up in the minors,” said Kiermaier. “I can see him 19 times a year, pick his brain and talk baseball. He takes very good routes on the ball and he has a phenomenal arm as well. His accuracy and the way his ball carries is amazing. I just respect the heck out of him. He gets out there early and is throwing to the bases. He really cares. He’s taken four or five extra-base hits away from me.”
