Yeah, I read that as Rosenthal taking a shot at Angelos. If Dan didn't have ownership approval I doubt he would be telling teams these guys are available.

I am starting to think that if we want we can sign Machado and build around him and Schoop.  I think Peter would go for a deal similar to Davis maybe extra year and money.  I could see a 8 year deal 190-200 million.  That most likely won't get it done but next year I've could play with a payroll around 100 million.  So we would pocket additional 60 million.  You take 40-50 million of that saving then offer Manny 8 years 240million.  Then when Jones contract comes off books  you give Schoop  a 7 year 140 million extension.  Again you are using the 20 million off next years budget.   Machado although getting 30 million it feels more like 25 because you took next years savings and Schoop is getting like 16-17 million a year with the pocketed money next season.

The Nats gave up very little in that deal looking at that trade I don't want that type of deal for two very good bullpen people. If Dan made that trade for Brach and Britton or Brock and Givens people would be here bashing him.

Keep dreaming.   Machado isn't going to negotiate from a position of weakness.   He has one more year.   A big year puts him easily into 10/300 territory or better.

Which is why they should trade him. They'll never sign him to a deal like that.

Especially not in the midst of a complete rebuild. ;)

Why I said that won't get it done but 8 years 240 million is same amount per year by taking next years payroll savings.

He also knows what are not only non-starters but will get Angelos to push the Mr. Burns model, "release the hounds" button under his desk.

Oh great. They will let Manny leave and all they get back back is a comp pick?

The Nats got two good setup men from the A's.  They did not get a closer.  I don't think they are done shopping for the bullpen--their bullpen needed a total makeover.   So they should still be interested in Britton--although probably not Brach or O'Day.

Buck needs to get Britton into the game today, even if the O's are trailing 10-0 in the late innings.  The O's can't be left without a dance partner.

Dangling Brach, Britton, and DoD.

Maybe  Castillo.

No to Givens, Manny, and AJ.

Smith.

Interesting that Schoop plays short again today.

as long as he receives ownership approval, major-league sources say.

Haha!   A public relations move by Duquette to let everyone know that he wants to sell.    The above line says it all.   Why even float the rumor with that caveat?

Could be a Rosenthal angle. Maybe he's asking a leading question of his source. I wouldn't put it beneath him.

That said, the other option is more likely. DD putting it out there that it's not his fault if we implode and get nothing. He'd probably like another job after next year.

Well, I certainly hope he can find another job. That's a top priority. I wonder if he would consider tendering his resignation.

    • Do you ever keep count how many times the fans are wrong and Hyde is right?   I didn't think so.
    • At one time, the Orioles seemed to be in the minority regarding keeping guys under wraps and to lower pitch counts.  Now this seems to be the rule among teams in the minors.
    • Billy Cook just keeps grinding his way along.   He gets a little better every year while advancing through the system.  He's at .862 OPS overall but .929 after almost 100 PA at Norfolk.   Striking out less.  Walking more.  Hitting more doubles but less homers so far.  Stealing some bases.  Playing all three OF positions, 1B and 2B.   Can I get a top 30 for this kid @Tony-OH? 😄
    • He isn’t letting Grayson coming off a shoulder issue throw a bunch of pitches. I’m sure they had a number in mind before the game.
    • You aren't going to impress me with Kremer being the only decent player they got for Machado.  Sorry, that isn't an example of his competence.  As for Means, he got his improvement as a result of going outside of the system with an outside baseball training facility.   He gets a lot of credit for GrayRod though as many criticized the pick.
    • The Bryce move was less controversial because he didn't escape the guardrails of the draft regulating one and only one Club he had the opportunity to sell his labor to. Last CBA round during the international draft negotiations Tony Clark gave out a quote like "in principle we don't like drafts of any kind" Being selfish for Orioles and with Elias having the extra pool money this year because of Gunnar, I've wondered if Ethan Holliday could quick drop out of 11th grade with a few weeks to go, grab that GED, play one game for Stillwater Community College and earn reclassification to 2024.     Then he just needs to pull that John Elway or Eli Manning thing.
    • Received my voucher email last night (they'll be in my account as of May 24).  There's no way they could've known I was there for the whole game, so it appears everyone who had a ticket for that game and a MyOriolesTicket account received a voucher. Pretty generous!  Good for 2024, most M-Th games (select "blackout" dates excluded).
