Attendance 2019

The next big attendance day might be May 4th.... Star Wars / Mancini bobble head.  Might reach 20,000 and maybe 65% of them will actually stick around for the game.

I also received a phone call from the Orioles trying to get me to buy single game tickets in advance (to avoid the day of charge) or a new birdland membership.... first time in years the ticket office has been doing cold calls for sales.

Winter is coming.

8,374 today.Has to be the lowest 4 game series ever at Camden Yards. Did not break 9,000 in any game.

So we drew what, about 32,000 for the series?

I can still remember the series with the Yankees in 1980 (5 games) that drew over a quarter of a million fans.

Sigh.

The O's drew 250K for a five game set and only 1,547,438 for the rest of the season?  That's abysmal for a 100 win team coming off a WS appearance.

And yet that was the highest attendance they had ever had in their history up to that point.

The combined attendance for all 3 games would have filled 68% of the stadium's capacity.

The combined attendance for all 4 games STILL would not have filled the entire stadium's capacity ........ all 4 games combined would have filled 69% of Oriole Park.

Also, in the 4-game series with the Athletics (unlike last September's 3-game series with the Athletics), they didn't even get into 5 digits (10,000 or more) in any of the games.

The good news is that the attendance grew progressively higher for each of the 4 games.

Yes, it did.

And if that trend continues they could be drawing 25,000 per game by midseason, and close to 40,000 per game by late September.

But that trend won't continue and I have to believe you know that.   There was a twin-bill doubleheader on September 29, 2018 that drew 26,020 and that was the largest gate for the month.  On September 23, 2017, 42,802 was the sole 40,000+ mark.  Ditto almost a year prior, September 24, 2016 with 40,610.   Even in the heyday of September 2014, 4 home games went over 40,000, 3 vs NYY and 1 vs BOS. In 2012, 6 game drew over 40,000, 4 vs NYY and 2 vs BOS.  Neither NYY or BOS come to town this September. 40,000 per game? In 2019?

Yes Tony, it was a joke in light of the Orioles' record-low attendance for their 4-game series with the Athletics (in addition to the fact that the team is 1-7 in their last 8 games since their 4-1 start to the season.

If the team's W-L record continues to be as bad as it is expected to be, they will probably be hard-pressed to draw 25,000 per game by midseason, let alone 40,000 per game by late September.
