Looks like we are about even on slot amounts if Henderson's 2.3M amount is accurate.  Potential savings on both Rutschman and Watson deals.  I expect a minimum of 500K between those two deals.  Might be playing hardball with Watson.

Think you're right on this. 22 year old college junior. This is his last year with any leverage. Profiles as a defensive-first fourth outfielder. Unless he makes a big swing adjustment that adds power to his game, he's not the type of profile that will see big jump in draft status next year.

Guessing Dashbach may want more than slot, but not seeing other unsigned college players who could make big demands. Wonder how big of a number you'd have to put on some of the HS kids at the end of the draft to get them to skip college.

This is what I’m thinking. Save 400K on AR. Another 100-200k on Watson. That then gives us money to sign Dashbach, Hammar, and Roth. If one of those three were to fall through we could make a run at one of the HS kids late in the draft.

I like Watson but it wouldn’t be the worst thing just to get another pick in next year’s draft and have even more of a bonus pool.

Unless scouting and development think they have the key to unlocking something special from Hammer and Roth, I would prioritize upside high school players with any extra money. That's not to say it would matter for them. They could still turn down the money and go to college. But I would try to see if Pedersen, Arnold, Zmarzlak, etc. have a reasonable number in mind before circling back to Hammer and Roth.

I'd like to get Dashbach.

Of yours I think only Pedersen would even have a number.

Whole heartedly -  @jsbearr seems to think a million is that number.

If he was worth $1M, a team would have drafted him high enough to warrant paying him that much.  Unless Daschbach thinks he can get that as a senior sign, which I seriously doubt, I don’t know why he wouldn’t just sign in the 11th round for overslot, but still nowhere close to $1M.  If he thinks he’s worth that or can get it next year, his agent is giving him bad info.  There’s clearly a reason why he fell to the 11th round, and it’s probably due to his bonus demands more than anything else, because he’s a legit power threat for a PAC-12 school.   Hopefully Stowers and Handley put some pressure on him to sign and we get it done for around $200k or so.

Eh, Jake Arrieta dropped to the fifth round and signed for 1.1M.  Why didn't he just go in the second round?

Jon had a good argument for this thoughts.
