Ohtani

Mike Elias simply can't offer Michael Baumann, Cristian Pache, Connor Norby and Kyle Stowers this kind of experience.

Jack Flaherty was kind of Meh again, but hey, at least he isn't on Detroit for this weekend.

It is a special player to get to watch.    He's reviving some of the Babe Ruth "he hits too brilliantly to let him pitch" stuff, but hombre is going to do whatever he wants to do, it is part of the deal.    It does seem pretty likely the SB to this scale are a 1-time deal with the legs getting the year off from the mound.

I do have a baseball-y wish to see if he could be Ken Griffey, Jr. in center field if he tried.

He’s the best player in history. No one can convince me otherwise.

I didn’t say he has the most records or the most counting stats or the most MVPs. That’s not what I said.

He’s just the best player in baseball history.

I think you can argue he’s the best talent ever because of his ability to pitch. As an offensive player, he’s not the best player right now.

If you're going to make this a WAR/OPS/OPS+ debate, sure, he's not the best offensive player right now.  But then again his power/speed combination makes him tough to beat.

Best talent ever because of the ability to pitch, yes.  That's the point I was making.  Not only to pitch, but to be dominant on the hill, too.

I think that if he can play a plus outfield (and I think most of us think he can) he would be in the running for best player even if he didn't pitch.

Take out the pitching and he’s not close to Bonds.

I don't think it's as lop-sided as you seem to.

Pre-roid it's close to a bump.  30/30 to 40/40 range in those years for Bonds.

Sure Ohtani could be using similar types of supplements result wise but the focused workouts would look different for Ohtani if he's not pitching.

Bonds’ average OPs+ season was about the career best for Ohtani.  Bonds had 8 better seasons. He had like 11 or 12 8+ WAR seasons and several over 10.
