I was equally impressed with Cedric's AB.  He fought off a couple of 97 mph FB's and hung in there before flailing at a slider in the dirt.  That lefty lefty thing isn't so bad after all (SSS).

It's amazing how much different Cedric looks since he was sent to the alternate camp last year.  He is such a different player.

So, they don't count the run that scored on Valdez as an ER, right?  Since he had a runner on 2nd just because of the extra innings rules?  I only ask because Yahoo (which is garbage when it comes to stats) showed the run as earned.

Yes, runs that score from 2nd base in extra innings are considered unearned runs.

In some theoretical world in which guys still go ten innings.

Maybe he goes 8 innings, or 9, in a 7 inning doubleheader.

A 7 inning game that is scoreless and goes extra innings and no one scores in the 8th... a pitcher could retire all 27 batters he faces and take a loss.

A pitcher can be perfect and retire every batter he faces and take a loss.

Yep, two wild pitches or one wild really wild pitch, or an error on a pickoff play could allow this to happen. The pitcher, if on the home team could have a line of 1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 HBP, 3K and pick up a loss.

Or even a couple of sacrifice bunts/flies.

Or just a groundball to the right side, and a sac fly.   Or a passed ball.   So the pitcher doesn't even have to have a wild pitch on his record.

The bullpen:

Valdez: 4.1 IP (0.00 5K, 3 H, 1 BB)
Scott: 2.2 IP (0.00, 5K, 1 H, 2 BB)
Sceroler: 2.2 IP (0.00)
Plutko: 5.1 IP (0.00)
Tate: 2 IP (0.00)
Sulser: 2 IP (0.00)

That's some pretty good relief pitching.

Damn!

Armstrong has given up some very hard hit balls since his return and his absence from the list is conspicuous.  Also, I want Mountcastle to play every inning of every game of 2021 in Left.  It's the only way he's going to improve.  That was not an easy play last night.  He should have caught it, but it wasn't an easy ball to judge or get to and it was well struck, as they used to say.

Agreed! RMC isn't that bad out there and with reps reps reps he will get better. And of course you want his bat in the lineup.

Classic COF. Average at best D, hit's like a mo-fo.

So they should just keep one if Hays, Mullins and Santander out of the OF every game so that Mountcastle can get more reps?   That’s a bit extreme.
