A nice interview with Lowther (with all the media including a guy from Fangraphs who asked if/how his pitches have changed in 3 years) after he arrived yesterday.  Gives some inside looks at the alternate site both this year and last and Zac brings a celebral approach to his descriptions.

Here’s the driving force as to when we can “compete”... How many MLB SP can we develop out of Kremer, Zimmerman, Lowther, Akin, Baumann, and Alex Wells?  Even throw in Bradish and Smith in AA.

Honestly, I don't think it will be much of a driving force. If two of those guys pan out as back of the rotation guys and Hall and Rodriguez pan out as mid to front of rotation guys, it will be solid with Means as the holdover. 

The bigger issue is whether Hall and Rodriguez pan out as there is such a large quantity of the other guys, not to mention the Matt Harveys and Jorge Lopezs that are always available, that the back of the rotation is not ever a major concern.

Would rather have one of the above mentioned 8 pitchers blossom into a #3 starter than have 3 of them be #4-5 starters, which is the most likely outcome.

I think he should have been starting over Jorge Lopez from day 1, but better late than never.  Hopefully this is the end of them playing non-baseball games with him.
