I’ve pretty much stopped watching

Following Lowther, McKenna, Jones and Leyba  a lot now.   If Lowther has a good start tonight  he could get a promotion to the O's rotation for his next start.   McKenna probably needs 100 at bats at AAA before they get a promotion.  Leyba cooled off a little after a hot start with the Tides.  He had a good game last night though.  If he continues to hit he could be up to help at 2B/3B.

I really like the swing and approach from Jones. I'm hoping he can be a solid contributor as an outfielder. Also hoping Leyba gets a lengthy opportunity with the O's.

Last year reminded me how much I missed baseball when I didn't have it available to ignore. So I am watching more this year than I did in 2018 or 2019. But It's usually for about an hour or so tops and I'm checking out once the game is no longer competitive.

This Astros series was a total disaster. I barely tuned in.

There was a time in my life when I would schedule events around the Oriole schedule just so I could watch most games.  Now I never truly even know what the schedule is from day to day.  if I'm home I'll check to see if the game is on and if so I'll turn it on as background noise.  Completely lost the emotional bond I used to feel for each game.

I still am a fan though but more of my interest is directed towards following the young guys that I hope could be a part of the next winning team.  That does include 3 or 4 guys on the major league roster and that truly is the only reason I pay attention at all to the major league club.

One thing is for certain, I have zero interest in going to Camden Yards to drop a bunch of $$$ on a game when I can go to Aberdeen or Bowie and root for the young guys at a much cheaper cost.

Though I'm here with you crazies pretty much every day, I can't recall watching an Orioles game on TV all the way through since the 2016 wildcard game.

Some of that is having gone from 0-6 with ye olde infant/toddler/kid in recent years, but even before parenthood the DVR as time-saver was basic to day to day consumption.   If in the 7-12 range, I'm lucky enough for the kiddo to become a fan and he embraces letting Jim Palmer be in his ears often, I'm not sure what my Time Management strategy will be.   I suppose some of him hearing Scott Garceau hawk the Maryland lottery will be inevitable.

There are certainly, even now, good Orioles it is a joy to watch play, and even if we get Adley, Bradish, etc. for AUG/SEP, their baseballing can mostly be captured in 10-20 good minutes circa 830.   Matt Harvey innings are a lot easier to take on 3X fast forward...I just kind of watch the orange baserunner dots carousel down in the corner.

I follow the score on my phone but that is about it.  It is hard to justify spending my time watching or listening to such a terrible product.  I am not sure why this level of losing is acceptable to anybody with even a single competitive bone in their body.  Do we really have less talent than Pittsburgh, Texas, and Colorado?  There is no reason we need to be THIS awful.  Not every pitcher outside of Means has to be terrible.  The culture is that losing at the major league level has become acceptable, and that should never be the culture in any work environment.  We just assume these guys aren't very good, but maybe the real problem is that they wear our uniform and work for our organization.  Maybe if they wore San Francisco Giants uniforms like our old friend Kevin Gausman, they might not be as terrible despite having the Dodgers and Padres to contend with in their division.  The Giants, like the Cardinals, have a culture of winning.  That version of the black and orange overachieves, which I suppose perfectly offsets our version which underachieves.  36 playoff seasons since 1983 and we have 3 LCS games won over that stretch.  Even the Pirates and Mariners have had more success in the postseason over that stretch.  If the playoffs really are a crapshoot, maybe we should give up gambling because we stink at it......in the rare years we even show up at the casino.  We could just focus our post Davis/Cobb goals on spending as little as humanly possible on major league players.  Maybe if we are successful and win the budget battle, they will hang a flag for that at the Yard......if they can find identify the funds to stitch it.

In a sense, we're still in the Davis Era and can't blame a random meteor for the devastation. As Cassius opined in Shakespeare's great tragedy Petrus Caesar: "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, / But in ourselves, that we are Orioles."

I have returned to wondering daily, as I did so often during the 14 years in the wilderness, why I even care.

That is why, to this day, I still enjoy the Bard. Just so damn relevant!

Back when I chose the Orioles as my team in 2016 the team was fun to watch and that season had some amazing games. But since 2018 it has been a brutal journey, they just play awful baseball 90% of the games. I'm an european and I like to watch a few innings before I go to bed, but has soon as we start trailing I turn the game off. I really like to watch baseball, but this team is too painful to watch. Sometimes I think I should've chosen another team. But I guess I'll stick with the Orioles hoping they'll turn this around.
