2021 3rd round pick (76): John Rhodes - OF - (Sophomore) Kentucky

But the most important decision will be from sophomore outfielder John Rhodes. Rhodes became draft-eligible this year when the MLB pushed the draft back to July since he turns 21 within 45 days of the draft. Rhodes is ranked as the No. 134 draft prospect by MLB.com and is by far Kentucky’s most intriguing draft prospect for MLB teams. Still, there’s some thought within the industry that Rhodes is open to returning to Kentucky. With another year of leverage following this year, Rhodes is likely to set a signing price near or above seven figures and only sign if a team meets his number. That brings up the question of whether an MLB club will be willing to spend that much on Rhodes following a sophomore season that saw him hit .251 with 11 home runs and 36 RBI. Perhaps a team will like him enough to pay a premium price, but it wouldn’t be surprising at this point to see Rhodes return to Lexington and try to improve upon his numbers as a junior. If Rhodes returns, it’s easy to point to Kentucky’s outfield as a whole being upgraded over the offseason.
