On a Monday? There would be 2,500 people there. Not much more on Tuesday, or Wednesday. Thursday the 19th is a 12:35 start. I think it will be Friday the 20th.

I think you are thinking about the incentives for the O's backwards.  The whole goal is to sell more tickets.  If he debuts on a Monday that would have low expected attendance (note this will be a Yankee game so I don't think we are looking at just 5,000 fans anyway) then that means an Adley debut might have MORE of an economic benefit for them.   He will help sell tickets.   I hope to be one such person able to purchase one to his debut whenever it happens.

The dream scenario is a sold out ball park on his MLB debut and he goes 4-4 with two home runs. I find it hard to imagine they will draw a large crowd if he debuts on a weekday game, much less a weekend game against Tampa. This is much different than when Bryce Harper, or even Matt Wieters came up. There was a lot more national buzz surrounding those players.

There’s plenty of local buzz about Rutschman, but I can’t imagine his debut will draw anything near a sellout.  Wieters’ debut FWIW drew 42,704, which was the 6th largest home crowd that season.  The 2009 O’s drew 1.9 mm fans and did quite well a lot of weekends.   They topped 40,000 eight times that year, and 30,000 another 10 times.   By contrast, last year’s team topped 30,000 exactly once.

Agreed, a lot has changed since then. I'm thinking 15k-20k range for his debut.

It was also a Friday night game.

The O's have topped 30,000 twice this year already, right?  I think attendance will be better this year than last year.   I don't think people are as panicked about the risk of Covid.

Last year attendance was restricted to 25% capacity until June 1.   It probably didn’t matter much, but it certainly cost them a much bigger crowd on Opening Day.
