He's had an issue before with hitters, being overmatched, try and work a walk.

Now at 11 Ks in 4 IP...pitch count at 82....a bit high but sometimes you get that with strikeout guys.

Does seem like he won't be able to get deep into games.  Maybe in this day and age it doesn't matter that much.

Str% was about 69% today, which is really good.  But the 6 baserunners helped drive up the pitch count.  He definitely needs to be more pitch efficient.  He should be able to at least get into the 6th if he is throwing 90 pitches.

BTW, why is he throwing as many or pitches already than Grayson did?

11 K's but 2 walks in 4.1 innings on 89 pitches. It looks like Hall is basically fully stretched out, just needs to get the walks down. He's getting closer though.

He also had to get 4 outs in the 1st inning because he struck out a guy on a wild pitch. After reading the AB summaries, it does seem like they were trying to drive his pitch count up in a calculated effort.

20 batters faced, so 45% K-BB today.

The High School Class of 2017 pitchers above Hall at the 21st overall pick - I'd charted their Year1 2018 workloads, and DL Hall's 1556 pitches that year were a fair bit higher than Trevor Rogers 1265, Hunter Greene 1140, MacKenzie Gore 1002, Shane Baz 889

I suspect Elias/Blood would say that was "wrong", but Buck was probably thinking about having him in his 2019 bullpen.

They'll do that in the Major League's too though, and ML hitters are better at it

I’ll call 11 K’s in 4.1 innings while walking two a good outing.  Still stuff to work on, for sure.  I’m thinking we see Hall sometime after the all star break.

They also won't be scared to swing at pitches.

ML hitters would rather get a hit than walk.
