He's been a starter. A starter has a different warmup routine than a reliever. To me, it's not an insignificant difference. Optioning him gives him a chance to find his routine as a reliever and then they say they're bringing him back. 

He had a lot of run on his fastball early. I'm guessing he's used to getting a lot of strike calls on that kind of pitch he won't get the call on in MLB. Maybe he needed to see that because I'm sure he's been told.

I totally disagree. I think it’s very obvious that Elias reads the board and that many of his moves have been in direct response to posters. Most of his good moves, for example, have been based directly on my posts. I am seriously considering asking for a commission. Nothing too wild, just a few hundred K. I don’t want to seem greedy.

I don't think the strike zone is different in AAA than the majors.  The batters and what they swing at, somewhat.  But it was clear he was a little amped up for his first start and not hitting spots. I think Elias' plan is for him to work from the pen, that's not going to change because he wasn't spot on everything in his first few innings in the majors.

The issue I have with it is Vespi a valuable bullpen arm can’t be called back up for 15 days. I know Elias isn’t all in on a playoff run this season, but Hall could have made a few bullpen outings at Norfolk before getting promoted.

I agree with all of that. Seems it's going to be important for him to figure out how to enter a game under control rather than find it in the second or third inning. 

But I certainly understand the guy being amped up for his first start. No criticism there in the least. Happens to almost everyone.

Hall had only two swing and misses on his fastball. Let me reiterate this team doesn’t hit well. He has a long way to go

I care less about the results and more about the idea that I wasn’t blown away by his stuff.  He didn’t miss many bats. 

That said, I don’t take that to mean anything after one start, especially his first without the C he should have had back there.  The familiarity with Adley matters in an instance like this.

Defense also wasn’t great behind him.

He had a 5 ERA in AA and AAA this season. His trouble wasn’t amped up. He did what he’s done all season. Why is anyone surprised?

I saw him hitting 97 wit hthe fb. Can't recall seeing anything higher than that.

He had a 4.76 era, so a quarter run below 5 and only pitched 3 innings in AA this year.

To act like he’s just been a mediocre pitcher isn’t fair IMO. Really he’s had 4 bad starts and has been on an innings limit. 9 starts with 1 run or less allowed. The control is and has been an issue.

It’s throwing a baseball.  He does it well until he doesn’t.  He does it well like 49% of the time.  Pitching on the big stage is scary.  For someone who isn’t a strike thrower, the big stage can get scarier.  I believe in putting people on positions where they can succeed and then build on success.  DL will be good but don’t like him as a SP right now.
