Elias Addressing Media at 4:45 Today

It is unusual to hear that Elias is holding a press conference 4 hours in advance. That suggests he could have something specific to discuss, but who knows.  I was wringing my hands about Mullins before hearing that he’s in tonight’s lineup.  We’ll see if it’s anything other than a general catch-up.

Yesterday our old friend Britt highlighted the Nats’ Mike Rizzo challenging all MLB GM’s to do an ice water challenge for ALS charity.   Rizzo lost his sister to ALS.  I know it’s the Nats but Rizzo mentions that MLB GM’s are a close knit community.   It would seem Elias has to get on board with this at some point to avoid the O’s seeming petty so might as well get on board right out of the gate.

Is that something you hold a press conference for?  Or just something you do and then release the video to the media?

Well it usually involves raising money via pledges, not just getting cold water dumped on your head and showing a video afterwards, so advance notice is necessary.  Certainly can be announced in a different manner of course.

I doubt that it will even be on MASN.

Yes they are currently re-airing yesterday's Nats-Pads game, and then Fan Duel Racing (for you degenerates out there) on MASN2.  God forbid you cut off either of those!

This might be a clue, that it doesn't really seem like something Elias would be dealing with:

The Orioles today announced plans for the latest mural installations as part of the Birdland Murals series, powered by PNC Bank. The first mural will be unveiled at Oriole Park at Camden Yards on Friday, May 26, as part of the Orioles City Connect campaign. The second mural, which is expected to be completed by late summer, will be located in downtown Baltimore. The collaboration will continue to honor Baltimore’s rich culture, storied history, unique neighborhoods, and incredible people, while allowing Orioles fans to experience the remarkable talents of several local artists.

From Jake Rill from mlb.com....

Per #Orioles GM Mike Elias, John Means suffered a scapular/upper back strain during his Tommy John surgery recovery. A July return now probably out of the picture.

Bummer

At least now the Orioles can't stand pat at the trade deadline and say "hey, getting John Means back is just like a deadline acquisition."
