Flaherty's been coming on strong lately but don't fully trust him.

Wild you have to send 3 prospects - one raking in the minors - for a rental of a guy with a 1.55 WHIP. Feel like there's some paying for he name there. And for the love of God sign some actual front line pitching in the offeason or we'll keep finding ourselves in this predicament.

Looks like it's just Prieto and Rom:

Wanted to fix something for you..Rom and Prieto have zero chance of being part of this team going forward.

Good chance that Rom is DFA’ed in the offseason.

Prieto is like Hernaiz. It’s not that he’s not talented but he has no place here.

There is a lot to like about Flaherty.

Did you misread my post or are you just saying that an even stronger wording of "unlikely to miss" is needed?

The WHIP is worrisome. FIP less so.

Prieto was never going to play here.

Thoughts?

To me the most encouraging thing is he's had a .346 babip this year against a career number 70 points lower. And the Cards have -22 DRS so maybe a combination of bad luck and bad defense will change when he joins us and he'll get back to being a 3.50 ERA guy?

The Athletic's latest view on Flaherty:

The Cardinals took a gamble on Flaherty entering the 2023 season, hoping the right-hander could return to the ace-caliber form he showed in 2019 and in early 2021, before a slew of injuries sidelined him for 18 months. His first half was inconsistent and his walk rate skyrocketed, but over the last month, he has been one of the most consistent starting pitchers in the league. Though he struggled with command throughout the first half, his fastball and slider — the bread and butter of his arsenal — have hardly looked better as of late. Flaherty has the stuff and the swagger to be an upper-rotation arm for a contending team.

I’m a little concerned about IP this year compared to the last 3 years. W/O knowing the circumstances
