Well you should call Elias and let him know that you think that your personal beliefs should be his guideline.

That's not what I said at all. I said an "adult" should make the decision. It's Elias' job to look at for the best interests of the team and players and saying that the only litmus test that needs to be passed is a a bunch of young players saying "yep, we're good with it" is pretty ridiculous.

Also, agreed. But the fact that he wasn’t completely shut down after throwing is still some sort of positive. When Bautista threw in September, they immediately shut him down.

Not sure I follow - Bautista was on a throwing program for a few weeks if I recall correctly, beginning with long tossing and moving to a bullpen session

Maybe not a perfect 1-1 comp with Bradish, but we haven’t had other PRP situations since Hunter Harvey and Dylan Bundy.

Agree. Hope for the best; assume the worst. Hard not to be cynical with baseball injuries like this, the human body is just not meant to pitch.

Not only assume but plan for the worst. If they end up needing to have Kremer optioned or in AAA because they signed another starter and bullpen arm, then that’s gravy. But on day 3 of camp we should be prepared if for the possibility of a third injury between now and May that could leave our depth totally demolished otherwise.

Any update on Seth Johnson? He's coming off Tommy John, but thought he was projected as a back-end starter by some.

He threw 10 innings total at different minor league levels, wasn’t good at A+ or AA but it was definitely mostly about getting him on the field. Assuming he’ll start at AA as long as he didn’t tweak anything.

also, his mug on bref really looks like Max Scherzer.

From Roch:

Kyle Bradish said he’s “very confident” that he can recover from his elbow injury and be a major contributor to the 2024 Orioles.

Bradish was diagnosed in January with an ulnar collateral ligament sprain.

“I’m feeling really good right now,” he said this morning. “I’m going to take it day by day, trust the process and the schedule and everything.”

Orioles executive vice president/general manager Mike Elias confirmed yesterday that Bradish will begin the season on the injured list. Bradish was expected to be the No. 2 starter behind Corbin Burnes.

“Obviously, I was bummed, based on the year we had last year and coming into this year feeling really confident,” Bradish said of the diagnosis. “It’s a little bit of a setback, but like I said, I feel confident that I’ll be able to pitch and help this team out this year.”

Bradish felt irritation in his elbow while throwing and received a platelet-rich plasma injection. He didn’t do much research on it but sounds confident that he can avoid surgery.

“I haven’t studied up on it,” he said. “I trust our training staff and what they said. Initial kind of results from it, I feel good, and we’ll see how it goes when I throw.”

Lmao at all of this. He won the cy young with spider tack to prove a point? He pushed teammates (he was called out by Gerrit Cole in college for having zero work ethic)? Bauer is a textbook dumb guy’s idea of a smart person.

Bauers RPMs didn't drop suddenly after the ban.  It was Gerritt Coles RPMs that did (Bauer's intended target - along with the rest of the Astros)....

Gerritt Cole ridiculed Bauer at UCLA for the way Bauer trained because they were all 'outside of the box techniques' and different from 'what pitchers should be doing' : using rubber tubing , wrist weights, plyo balls, underload & overload balls, intense long toss work and pvc tubing to stretch and warm up his shoulders.....all of these things are now common place in baseball....along with the Edgertronic cameras he used to design pitches and introduced to baseball....

In 2018 out of all pitchers that threw at least 50 five-fastball innings Bauer ranked 169th out of 178 pitchers in spin rate change from first fastball of the inning to the last (ie. determining if a player was applying sticky stuff between innings and that was slowly coming off their hand through-out the inning).  Cole ranked 27th....*Bill Petti HardBall times*

Wonder why Cole has bad things to say about him?😉

Like I said, he is a disruptor.  He is not a natural athlete, not tall, and not incredible strong.  He made himself.  When put around other freak athletes who don't push themselves to the max, he doesn't do so well.  I agree, he might not be a good fit for many organizations and might not be a good fit for the O's.  I'll leave that up to Elias to decide.  But from what I've read about him and his training, he would do very well in a high-achieving/pushing the boundaries group of players.  But there is obvious risk, and you can't ignore the fact that the other 29 teams have passed on him so far.  So there may very well be some facts I'm unaware of and a very good reason he isn't signed.  But to call him lazy or bad teammate is complete and utter BS.  There are dozens of other players, coaches, and trainers that would refute those accusations wholeheartedly.

He hasn’t really pitched in MLB after the ban, while Cole has to great success.

I’m not calling him lazy, but pointing out that though you said he pushes his teammates to be better, in the past the opposite has been the case. Note that the criticism came in college, before anyone outside of prospect circles knew who they were - it’s not an ongoing feud afaik. But I think it should be telling that his one known friend on the field is Clevinger, aside from Mookie Betts giving a diplomatic statement no one else has stood up for him.

FWIW he did have 2 MLB starts after the spider tack ban was enforced. They were both a little more rough than the rest of his season, but it was a SSS.

Why?

Because a 20 something year old player isn't (and shouldn't be) in a position to make that call. If you had a 21 year old son who still lived with you would you let him make all your important decisions for you?

Moose: Hey, son I'm thinking of investing all of my retirement money into NFTs. Whadaya think?

Moose, Jr.: Yeah Dad, do it. That would be lit.  NFT's are fire.

Moose: Done!

    • Loved seeing Eloy's enthusiasm at joining the team over the summer, but yeah it was way past time for this.  I didn't realize he still had options remaining, so I guess he's still around for a 'break glass in case of emergency' moment - hopefully he's done for the year though.  And declining the option is beyond a no-brainer, so that is in all likelihood it for Eloy as an O.
    • I've been fired up every day since my divorce hearing on 11/12/19. The third best day of my life. In all seriousness, life is good. Remember the 15 straight losing seasons? They're not perfect, but today is a new day and yesterday doesn't matter. Westburg, Urias, et. al. have returned, our BP is stronger and we have our best 3 SP set to go this series. We're 6-4 versus them this year, including taking 2/3 last time we were in NY. Pick your heads up a little bit. Will they win the WS? No, I don't think so. But guess what??! They've got a chance! I was at the game Sunday, and I'll be tuned in to every inning of the last 6 games. LFG.
    • I don't think there is any way to be a sport's fan and not require some form of therapy. For me, OH is my therapy center. If you invest any part of your being in a sport's team, there is no prescription for tranquility. You just have to come to a strategy that best allows you to follow your team. Mine for the most part is to walk away and turn it off. Wife gets mad at me because I won't keep watching a game when we are losing or playing poorly. Says I'm not a real fan. She's probably right but I don't view watching poor performance of any kind as a good use of time. I also don't get too much into second guessing or modern statistical analysis. Not interested in coulda - woulda - shoulda and though I am awed by all the data, it's just too much for me to digest and use. I let you all do that for me. If I think it's over the top I may say something but mostly enjoy the read. In this way, OH has helped me get through the down years and the good ones too. And it's also great in between.  So, in some fashion, we are all addicted to a game - a team. The trick is to remember this is entertainment - not life. And that can be hard. Now beat the Damn Yankees and make me feel better cause the way you've been playing is killing me 😄!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    • This was the correct choice, glad to see them make it.
    • How about..." we wont win another game in the regular season"?
