Great post.  This is a huge year for Povich and he really needs to pull it all together on a much more consistent basis this season.

No one has said Povich was a lock for anything or had nothing to prove.  Povich does.  He's got control and game-to-game consistency issues.  There's near universal agreement there.  His velo isn't high enough to minimize the control issues.  But his stuff/movement is really good from everything we've seen.

The extremes between the good and bad Povich is the mystery to me.  He can repeat consistently on the good days.  What's so different on the bad days?  Just feels odd...

What we know for sure is that Elias really likes him. He liked him out of college. He targeted him in trade.

Clearly he believes in him and not just because he thinks he can be a high leverage reliever.

There is a lot there to work with.  Figuring it all out is obviously going to be the key.

He was really good at the Rule 5 thing and trading for guys like Bud Norris, Alejando D'Aza and Gerardo Parra.  Is that what we can have him do again?

Um, maybe Elias can help him get a job on another team rich in pitching prospects.

They are nothing alike, other than their names.

I beg to differ, sir.  They have both have pitched 5 scoreless innings, and their first names both begin with "A."  😁
