Right. Urias is a reverse splits guy but lefties have hit Lugo much better than righties. That said, lefties still had a sub 700 OPS vs him.

If the analytics dept is on board he starts. I’m sure they look at swing path vs certain pitchers etc. I know it was a meaningless game but the fact they he changed his swing and had in game success was nice to see.

It wasn’t meaningless for him.

Any chance Holliday gets the start today?

I would assume no…but he did have a good last game and came in for Gunnar and drew another walk.

Urias is 7-29 since coming back and one of those hits was a gift double yesterday.

To be clear, I’m not saying they should start Holliday, just wondering if they would consider it.

I doubt it. The last month the approach was to prepare him for a sub role. I think it's great that he ditched the leg kick and had good results in one game but starting Holliday would be a desperation move. Ramon hit well down the stretch and had a better overall season. Objectively, I don't see any reason why it should be Holliday. I also like our defense as it is.

Right.  I suspect they don’t start him but one thing that also hurts is Urias’ lack of speed. Even if you hold up on the Mullins hit yesterday, a faster player may score anyway.

Urias didn’t hit well down the stretch. He had a 654 OPs after coming back.

That’s interesting.  Clearly has faith in him.

I'm not sure that is it - just hasn't had enough opportunities to be a regular in the lineup. He is placed in the high leverage situations out of desperation for platoon advantage.

Mounty is 2-4 with a double vs Lugo.

I agree. I’m sticking with him. I like Kjerstad a lot but this may not be the best situation for him.

The argument against Kjerstad is Lugo’s curveball.  Silent J can’t help but chase curveballs and Lugo’s is one of the best in the biz.

You may have sold me here and I think you're right.  Also Mounty > O'Hearn defensively.  I'm pissed at Mountcastle, but that'll change as soon as the game starts.  I just want to win.  WE can all disect and analyze, but the truth is this team as the bats in the right spots and they just gotta produce.

Just win one and get off the schnide.

I kinda like this action, KC with 4 LH in the pen. Lets make sure we get as many ABs matched up. so with that O'hearn over Mounty. Adley catches, and the bench ready for left handers.

Mullins at lead off today?

I'd stick with Gunnar against RHP. Not sure who I would put there vs LHP but cross that bridge another day. Gunnar hit .316/.922 in Sept and my recollection is he was mostly batting leadoff.

Would have to drop Gunnar to 3. Or do you want Gunnar coming up earlier is the question?

Mullins should absolutely Lead Off Today. Keep westburg 2nd then Gunnar, Tony, O'hearn, Adley, Cowser, Kjerstad, Holliday. Try to jump these guys early.

    • We should really shake the lineup up and start all the bullpen guys in the field and put the regulars in the bullpen. 🙄
    • I’m not fired up but if you make posts like that, you should expect people to respond with confusion.
    • We are 2.5 point favorites. The Bengals are obviously off to a disappointing start.  I think they finally have all their weapons on offense back though, and they did just drop 34 points on the Panthers.   Yes, i know it's just the Panthers. Hopefully we build on our momentum from last week.  I don't know of any serious injuries that we need to be concerned about yet.   Keep running the ball with authority and forcing them to guess what's coming.
    • Below is how is a comparison of Adley’s 2023, first 3 months of 2024, last 3 months of 2024, and MLB 2024 averages. One of the bigger issues has been the spike in pop-ups.     2023  H1 24 H2 24 MLB  PAs 681 356 279 - K% 14.8 18.3 13.6 22.8 Walk % 12.6 7.9 9.7 8.0 whiff % 15.6 19.9 13.4 25.4 Chase % 23.4 30.0 27.6 28.5 wOBA .352 .353 .252 .310 xwOBA .373 .346 .283 .315 BABIP .303 .324 .211 .289 ISO .158 .176 .093 .157 LA 13 18 20 13 GB% 42.9 34.7 35.3 42.3 PU% 4.7 4.2 11.7 7.1 Sweet spot % 37.0 41.2 28.2 34.0 Avg EV 88.4 89.5 86.6 88.8 Hard hit % 38.6 43.1 28.6 29.2 Barrel/BBE 7.5 8.8 2.8 7.9 Bat speed - 67.9 67.1 69.6 Swing length - 7.0 6.9 7.2
    • Ergc is an interesting guy as he wasn't really good til last season  when he was pretty good in OAkland and doesn't have a lot of experience and none in the playoffs at 29 years of age  2021 in AA 5.29 ERA and 1.561 whip 2022 in AA and AAA 4.51 ERA and 1.647 Whip 2023  in AAA 6.46 ERA and 1.565 Whip and 4.75 ERA and 1.054 Whip  2024 At Oakland 3.68 ERA and 1.200 whip,  KC 2.88 ERA and .840 whip So he was bad most his minor league career and was pretty old but kept getting moved up because he has good fastball.  If you trade for him last off season people are wondering why you trade for a guy with those minor league numbers and a decent half season in Oakland.     If i had to take one I would still take Domiguez because of the longer track record and the 16 games he pitched in the post season of 16.1 innings and an ERA of 1.10 and 26 strikeouts with 4 walks vs a guy that had never even pitched in a playoff race.
    • For the record I don't EXPECT Hyde to start Holliday, and its perfectly reasonable not to.  Just saying what I would do.
