Can rain be a "friend" to our slumping O's?

Recommended Posts

Theres rain forecasted for tonight around 8 pm. If it rains over the stadium and Povich is shaky, there could be a delay or postponement. and Povich could be pulled.....On the other hand, Gerrit Cole who has also been rocked lately, would likely also be pulled from the game. We don't have our best pitchers in this  significant series. I think rain will play a big part in this weekend's series...I hope we win  one game of the three. Both teams are really slumping.

I am definitely pulling for the rain. Any days we can scratch off the calendar to get closer to the All Star break and/or the trade deadline without losing and while resting guys is fine by me.

doesn't the sunday 11am start time already make it a favorable day for a double header?

Prominent MLBPA members craving the All-Star break and their flights to Texas might strike on the spot if the league tried to pull a stunt like that!

From pinstripe alley: amazing that they are as scared of this series as some of us are

“Can't remember wishing for a complete NYY weekend rainout. Readjust and regroup.”

Of course they are also scared-- we are ahead of them in the standings and they haven't won a series against us in a year and a half!

One point against the rainout dream: because of the Cubs shellacking, the back end of our bullpen is uniquely well rested. The Yankees just played three close games at the Trop so that is less true for them.

Not going to be enough rain for a rainout. Povich will probably throw 6 shutout, they'll score 10 runs and everybody will be making their World Series reservations again.

Nah, let's win them all.

Yeah but then they get made up in a doubleheader, the games don't just go away because of the rain. I can't believe it's gotten to the point of people hoping for rainouts because they think this team is so bad and they need to be saved.

Doesn’t look like the rain will affect this game as much as we thought. Didn’t see it us favor us in any way. The numbers may not suggest this but I did not like the option of a bullpen game to begin with.

Yeah but I'm rolling the dice that by the time the double header is played the team isn't is a horrendous slump. I just want to get to the break and hope it snaps them out of this.

They don't come back to Baltimore, they play the doubleheader tomorrow in that case.

    • I don’t care if you’re a fan or not.   You don’t decide who plays.    Not sure if anyone has noticed but Eloy is starting to lift the ball more often.   The home run, long fly to CF, fly out to LF.   The O’s are hoping the Eloy experiment starts to pay off.   They certainly aren’t sitting him for someone who was 1-17 with 10 K’s.
    • The rules are a bit confusing. If Kremer goes on the IL and they bring up Anderson today (Sept 1st), Anderson will be eligible for the postseason?
    • Except 95% isn't 100%.  That's a 5% chance of missing the playoffs,  and I don't want to risk that in order for a washed up Kimbrel to get the chance to find himself.   The way we are playing right now a collapse isn't out of the question.
    • I agree this is how Hyde/Orioles do things. That doesn't mean we have to like it. Where I disagree with these thoughts is that Burch Smith needs to be able to go more than 14 pitches and one inning. If Smith comes back out and gets a clean inning, then the entire bullpen moves up one and It's Perez/Cano in the 8th. Then with Cano throwing 8 pitches, he gets the 9th.  Sure, if the Orioles don't score in the top of the 9th, and Cano holds him, that still leaves Kimbrel in the 10th, but at that point it is what it is. To me, the Orioles not wanting to use their relievers for more than one inning or for partial innings for match ups is why they end up having these meltdowns. Expecting 5 or 6 relievers to be on their game every night is not sustainable.  But that's exactly what Hyde/Orioles do. I'm just not a fan on how they manage the bullpen. Sure, there is not a lot of talent our there (Elias' fault) and they literally don't have one high leverage reliever that you totally trust against both righties and lefties, but at some point you can't keep running these guys out there that much.  Now Maybe Eflin will be exactly what this team needs today and the Orioles bats will wake up and we won't need a ton of relievers. If he struggles or has to come out early, this bullpen is a in a lot of trouble.
    • Eloy is going to have to hit better for me to become a fan for his.    Especially vs lefties.
    • I’m guessing it would cost them 2-3M for the rest of this year plus they’d be on the hook for the 1M buyout.   Not exactly big money.    He probably goes unclaimed but it’s not 100%.
    • You think the Orioles are going to sit Eloy at DH in favor of Mayo against LHP?    Can you send me some of whatever your taking this morning.  Sounds like great stuff.
