Looks like Mussina just might've just pitched himself out of the NYY rotation

That's actually a perfect example/analogy. It appears both are tanking out, but looks like there could be just a little left to keep going. But how long can they go? Is it worth it? They should just go home :P

Good.

:) This is good. I love seeing Mussina fail.

I always, always have felt that way too.

But watching him struggle tonight, I gotta say I felt a little bit bad for the guy.

It's tough to forget that he was the man with us, even though I kinda hate him for going to the Yankees.

He was very good last year....Bad this year...Wonder what is going on with him? Injury perhaps?

I hope he has a few more decent years in him to make sure he gets into the HOF even though he should be in there anyway.

Gotta be an injury. He's not that old, and he's too smart and talented to have just lost it.

Agreed. Also mention that it is so sudden. He has only gone 9 innings in his last 3 starts, but looked pretty good before that. Either the thinkingist pitcher in baseball has thought himself into a real funk, or he has some sort of an injury.

I saw Moose's postgame interview last night, and it was difficult to watch. I've rooted against him since he went to the Yankees, but if you have any compassion for your fellow humans at all, it was hard to see someone so obviously feeling beaten, confused and humbled.

As for what's wrong with him, the most reasonable analysis I heard is that he lost 5 or more mph off his fastball, then moved him arm slot more to 3/4 in search of velocity. That messed up his other pitches.

He admitted nibbling too much -"pitching backwards" in his own words- the last couple starts before last night, but yesterday he went back to attacking hitters with the fastball. Same results.

David Justice for one, seems to think Mussina is done being an effective pitcher, at least for this year. Thinks he needs a major overhaul to adjust to his diminished repertoire that can't be accomplished in a few weeks.

Saw his post game interview yesterday...He sounds and looks like he has lost confidence.

Said he thinks this is the worse 9 innings of his career over his past 3 starts.

Said he has never gone through this before.

He will be back but it is possible that it won't be until next year.

ESPN is reporting that they may pull him out of the rotation. I'm sure he's a nice guy and a fine human being and all, but I get much joy out of the fact that he's breaking down as a player.

It still burns me up, all of those 20 win seasons in New York, and the image of him finally raising that World Series trophy.

Oh, wait a minute, that's right - neither happened...

I've heard a lot of things about Mike Mussina, but never once that he was a nice guy. I do not feel bad about enjoying that arrogant jerk's comedown.
