I think that is what people who don't really care about our draft position don't realize. The draft used to be about signablity. We've seen this year with baseball awash in cash that most teams are going to sign their top picks no matter what. So the chances of a Wieters falling to us at 5 or 6 are even slimmer next year as teams are focusing more and more on the draft to build their organization.

That's what I'm saying. AFAIK, Alvarez hasn't signed with an agent yet. But the Wieters Principle might work in our favor again.

Alvarez won't sign with an agent until he signs his contract. Boras will most likely be his 'advisor.'

But Moustakas wasn't the Big College Star. Every year, there are a couple of guys who make noises about how much they'll want, and some teams get scared off. Wieters was one, and I think Alvarez might be, too.

Yes to both questions... It is why I think he'll land Alvarez.

For someone who can arguably be the #1 overall pick being represented by Boras is probably a negative as it might mean no chance of actually getting picked first..

Right now, I'm not optimistic the O's finish "ahead" of Tampa Bay in the draft. I'm just hoping they do something moronic like, "Hey, we've got a stud prospect a third base already, lets take a pitcher."
