He's getting ahead. He just doesn't have a go-to pitch to get the SO.

But there's what SHOULD be his out pitch - the change up.

Somehow he's doing a good job of getting ahead in the count without doing a good job of setting up hitters for the change, generally speaking.

That's it. Like any pitcher he needs to stay down in the zone, he is getting the ball up too much, doesn't have the stuff to do that.
