Anyone miss Mark Reynolds yesterday?

I'm sick of reading all the bickering about Reynolds as well, but I don't see a problem with this thread. It's in the MLB forum. There are threads here about Jeremy Guthrie and Erik Bedard as well...

But there is not a new thread every time they do something. It's just the tone of it. He is doing well, we get it. But maybe this was a wake up call that he needed, or maybe a new approach is working in Cleveland that may never have been implemented in Baltimore. I just know that if he were hitting .182 with two homers and nine RBI, probably some of the same people would be shaking their internet fists and talking about how dumb the front office was to re-sign him.

I was always one of his biggest supporters, but I am fine with him not being on the Orioles. He has some great streaks, but we also know that he is going to have some awful ones as well. And there probably won't be new threads that pop up every time he goes 0-4 with three strikeouts.

If Mark Reynolds played like he is now when he was an Oriole, he would be in tonight's starting line-up in Baltimore against the Royals...

Reynolds left the door open for the Orioles to not re-sign him because of his inconsistent (at best) performance when he was in Baltimore. DD & BS had other options...

Nice interview on the MLB - he said that long dinger was the best he's had because he had been plunked the AB before. Tito told him if he did "dong" to make a statement. He said he enjoyed watching it fly and then spit and stared at pitcher as he trotted it out. All good fun, he said, no hard feelings but guys don't like being hit in the head - intentional or not.

The homer reminded me of the one he hit against the Yankees that led to my favorite Gary Thorne call of all time.

Guest rochester
why did they let Reynolds go? DID NEITHER DAVIS OR REYNOLDS WANT TO DH ?

Why not?

In 2012, in April/March he batted 143, slugged only 206. He heated up in May and then cooled off dramatically in both June and July...only coming back alive in August and first week of September...then falling apart again.

It was a numbers game. The O's felt Reimold, Betemit, and Valencia could match Mark Reynolds's numbers. I wish they brought Reynolds back, but who expected him to be this good to start the year?

No one made this much fuss when we let Alfredo Simon and Matt Albers go.

No disrespect, but if you don't see the value of Mark Reynolds over Alfredo Simon and Matt Albers, you have a lot to learn. If your post was sarcasm, I apologize.

Yeah, I agree with all that. I just saw that there was yet another Reynolds thread posted today in Orioles Talk, which is definitely ridiculous. But I don't think there's anything wrong with having a "Mark Reynolds 2013" thread in the MLB forum for people to talk about how he's doing. :)

    • I assume you're talking about about the 3-2 fastball that got hit for a grand slam, it was the 3 batters before that Baker walked and not even being competitive, that was the low point of the season for Me. It was Baker that put him in a Jackpot.
    • Bump…the Tides are undefeated (5-0) since Holliday returned.
    • I think baseball's food concessions are largely an overpriced rip-off. The hot dog served at OPCY is the highest priced hot dog in the majors..In Miami you can get a hot dog at the park for 3 dollars. The entire price for attending a sporting event with a good seat is getting out of hand, and so is ALL entertainment. If you want a really good seat to see a top act you might have to take out a loan. Disneyland and Disney World are getting so expensive, that a middle class family of four simply is priced out of access. But back to baseball concessions. I dont eat meat, but I wouldn't buy a 9 dollar hot dog anywhere , let alone OPCY. I bring my food with me. It's the last line of affordability we're going to have in attending a ball game. Concession prices are unfair, but at least you can eat before the game...or  bring your own water and peanuts. Otherwise it's a shame...and it's wrong.
    • I don't know what got into him. I wonder if he made an adjustment or someone helped "fix" something..
    • I'd rather a thread by Roy saying that we should cut him now. The reverse jinx works both ways, so I think this thread is a biiiiiig mistake. That said, he was so good this series. Love that for him. On a broader point, this org does something right that's beyond the talent in the room. I assume it's advance scouting our opponents and preparation, but we're a step above.
    • It does tend to have the lowest (out the door) prices but buyer beware a bit. We used them for Opening Day and it was a bit of a debacle (the first private seller never delivered, then they got us a second “preferred seller” that also never delivered, and then FINALLY came through with a third “preferred seller” that came through, albeit it took more than a few minutes). Dealing with all of this, while waiting on hold, and missing the start of Opening Day festivities definitely sucked and made for a stressful situation.  But, yesterday, for just me, for a matinee game in which the out the door price was $9 and I was already going to be arriving midway through the 1st inning, it worked great. So it might just depend on your situation, but like I said, buyer beware.
