He was safe by a mile. We get a call.

He was safe, but not by a mile.

For some reason, Keppinger didn't slide right into home plate.

He slid around the plate, like he was afraid to hurt Wieters or something.

He just did get his hand in there, but it was very close, and it's Keppinger's own fault for making it is close as he did with his inexplicable slide.

My first Orioles game (Eddie Murray's 500th home run.)

My first baseball game was a doubleheader at the original Yankee Stadium in 1971. The White Sox vs. the Yankees. I was 5 and-a-half years old.

I went to a whole bunch of Mets games in 1972.

But I didn't see the Orioles live until 1977.

Eddie Murray was a 21 year-old rookie, and our DH.

I saw Eddie in my first Orioles game when he was a rookie, and you saw Eddie in your first Orioles game in his twilight (and his 500th home run.)

We lost to the Yankees, 14-2.

I thought it was slam dunk safe. That said, the ump must have thought Keppinger missed the plate.

HE DID miss the plate ...... originally, with that circular slide that he did.

But after he missed the plate, he still managed to sneak his hand in there, just ahead of (and around) Wieters' tag ...... hence, he was safe, but it was very close.

Again, why he did that circular slide in the first place, I have no idea.
