$72M over six years, that's paying for two wins a year. So that tells me they think he's roughly as good as Cespedes, after discounting for risk. That seems like the upper end of what we heard from the scouts.

Would anyone here have signed him? I am shocked DD let the Red Sox beat him:) I kid....

Thought it was seven years?

EDIT: I haven't read any of the stories, just saw the headline. #lazy

I'm guessing he and Cespedes will get along swimmingly in the locker room too.

The OF problem for the Sawx is almost fixed... they still have to get Jackie Bradley going. But what are they going to do about their pitching staff?

They will likely re-sign Lester. They have Bucholz and will make some shrewd deals for some more pitching, I'm sure. Not sure if it will be enough for them to be in contention next season, but you never know.

Yeah, you never know... but all I hear these days is how Lester will move on to greener pastures (har har). And Buchholz, I have no idea what happened to him but he is no longer a good pitcher.

Projected rotation:

Clay Buchholz

Joe Kelly

Rubby De La Rosa

Allen Webster

-free agent-

Not horrible, but those youngsters have to improve. As for the free agent, if they can't pay Lester I don't see how they will pay Shields or Scherzer.

And they got Allen Craig, too - who was real good the previous 3 years - but seems to have a lingering foot issue. If he recovers from that, their OF isn't Rice, Lynn, and Dewey Evans, but it's light years from this season.

A lot of the latest media suggests against the Red Sox resigning Lester, which makes sense considering they couldn't get it done while he was on the team and it will only cost more now.

There is a thought process out there that Shields will command less year, which could make him the most enticing sign, since he is 2 years older than the others, he could be looking at/willing to take a shorter deal since teams would be more hesitant to pay him the older he is. It seems a lot of teams would rather pay more money per year to shorten the deal then to have a deal dragging on a year or two longer than wanted.
