As the Orioles monitor the free-agent market and check on potential trade partners, they're placing heavy emphasis on finding a left-hander reliever this winter. It's their primary focus at the moment.

Also mentions that the O's are comfortable trading from their starting depth to address other needs, and that the Orioles will watch Johan Santana throw this off-season and entertain the idea of signing him again.

Ahhh yes, the trading from starting depth blurb is sure to get the spitballing speculators into high gear. I assume this could mean Chen since he is due to be a free agent after next season....though he's the only lefty in the rotation. Or perhaps Bundy? Would you trade Bundy and Wieters to LA for Joc Pederson? Oh crap, I just spitballed! But really though, would you trade Tillman or Gausman unless it was a major move? Gonzalez like Tillman is under team control through 2018. Norris is under control for two more years and is coming off a solid 15 win season, he's probably in play. I wouldn't mind moving one if it was the right deal?.and to me that means likely getting a good young bat in return. The LH reliever thing is a totally separate front.

Bud fits in with what DD and Buck are trying to do here, would not surprise me to see them extend him. Just my opinion.

I'm not a big fan of trading starting pitching for relief. If we move a pitcher, I hope it's for a corner OFer, 1B, or solid prospects. I don't really believe that you have to have a lefty specialist in the bullpen. Cotts is a guy who I wanted at the deadline before we got Miller.

Most of them have, and the ones that don't generally are jettisoned fairly quickly.
