A couple things I have to say about this after mulling it over.

Thank you Mr. Angelos for making a big offer to Davis. As much as I'd like to see him stay though, I think the O's should let him walk if he wants more than 7/150. While BOS, NYY, or LAD could eat that contract if Davis tanks the O's can not. The money can be used much more effectively elsewhere.

What kills me is all of the people here talking as if signing Alex Gordon, Upton or Hayward are going to sign "value" deals. Here's where the O's currently stand.. they must choose ONE:

1. Overpay some Free Agents

2. Trade multiple GOOD prospects

3. Blow it up

The only "value" play at this point is to bring guys through your own system.. and we all know where the O's stand with that right now.

Good! Make your best offer and stand firm. Put the ball in the players court. Then pursue other avenues if the offer is not excepted. That's smart!

I agree. This development is good news as long as the O's are aggressive about replacing CD's contribution right away.

Proceed with caution with Buster. Peter is in his ear. That's all I will say with regards to Buster.

Seems like DD confirmed that the offer was NOT increased with that statement. The talk of patience is telling. If so, this makes me happy.

Will it be difficult to deal with Boras on the Alvarez front if we are hard balling him on Davis

He doesn't work that way. He's about getting the most money for his clients. If we offer Alvarez the most money, we'll get him. Unfortunately, I think someone is going to overpay for Alvarez.
