For reference, and for sanity's sake; the 66 team was 35-20, and we are 36-24. We're not dead yet.

There are some parallels: strong defense, some sluggers, a good bullpen. All we need to do is have one of our young starters pitch like Jim Palmer.

Me too. I wonder what happens when Gallardo and Hardy get back? I think they can help right the ship if anyone can

With his sub-90 fastball Gallardo will have to do a Marco Estrada impersonation.

I'd rather have 2 good pitchers, a meh one and 2 ?'s than have 3 ?'s.

Gallardo hasn't proven he's more than another ? yet. He looked worse than meh in ST and early season.

    • Back in the early 2000s, Baseball Prospectus created a new award, the "DiSar", given each year to the player who went the longest in a season before drawing his first walk.  The "DiSar" was named after Gary DiSarcina, a futility infielder for the Angels in the 1990s who had notably low walk rates throughout his career.    You might think that James McCann is just another mediocre backup catcher, but you'd be wrong...this year, he is a leading contender for the DiSar!  He has 72 AB wihout a walk, most in the majors.  But he is facing tough competition from Jordan Beck of Colorado, who has 71 AB without a walk.  We can expect a nip-and-tuck battle over the coming months as Beck and McCann do all they can to pull their teams' collective OBP to the bottom of the league.   At one point, Craig Robinson of the 1973 Phillies held the all-time record for most at bats without a walk over an entire season, with 146.   But I found that nugget in an undated article on the SABR website, so it's possible that someone has passed Robinson in recent years.
    • Fair?  What’s fair?  He got ABs last September. Didn’t improve his doo doo defense over the offseason. Got lots of ABs in ST. Got ABs up here this season.   Keep in mind that I like Kjerstad.  But Geez… force your way onto the darn team. We’re a 100 win team. He’s not just going to be handed 100 straight PAs. He has 14 more PA than Jackson Holliday.
    • Hilliard is having a big year in AAA. Could we revisit him?    https://www.baseball-reference.com/register/player.fcgi?id=hillia000sam 11 HR, 1.000+ OPS. Can play CF. PCL tho. Didn’t get much of a look in ST.  Sometimes you can go back to the backup QB.
    • Kjerstad hasn't gotten a fair opportunity to show what he can do. If you think that he has, we'd never be able to even have a reasonable discussion about it because I couldn't disagree more, and it'd be because we view the game of baseball completely differently.
    • There’s probably a shorter curve for Santa to figure it out versus Kjerstad’s learning curve at the MLB level. It is what it is.  Kjerstad had ABs up here. Man, these dudes have been playing baseball their whole lives. He should’ve done something. His defense sucked too. I really like Kjerstad, cool story overcoming myocarditis, but produce bro. Not shedding tears for him.
    • The success of the starting staff, and that McCann knows our pitching lab/analytics stuff makes him really hard to replace.
    • Judge just set the record for most barrels in a month with 25. He has eight games left.
