We had some of the best SP depth in baseball at the Major League level a month ago. Things can change quickly when you lose three starters to Tommy John over several weeks. We still aren't in terrible shape. We obviously need to make a move at the deadline for a top end starter, and hopefully it is someone who can be here for awhile, given our lack of SP depth in the minors. I am comfortable going into the playoffs with Burnes, Rodriguez, XXXX Deadline Acquisition, and Kremer, with Povich as potential insurance for Kremer. I think that will give us an above average playoff rotation, and with this offense that is all we need to give us as good a shot as any team. -
The only thing coming unglued are many posters on this message baord. -
Think Ohtani or Trout should be in the conversation. -

Also, the Rangers lost 8 in a row in August. Ironically, their longest winning streak was also 8 games that same month. It goes to show how things turn on a dime. We were on top of the world after beating the Yankees 17-5 and at the time, we had gone 6-3 against the Braves, Phillies, and Yankees who will all probably be playoff teams. Let's not forget that the Indians have won 7 in a row, so 5 in a row coming in. They are hot and a legitimately good baseball team. -

I think pitching experience is a key here. The guys the Rangers had last year weren't exactly world beaters (Montgomery, Perez, Eovaldi, Heaney, and Scherzer came back late). At best #2 or #3 starters. But they all had experience and can keep their team in games, especially the way they were hitting obviously. Once you get past Burnes nobody in our rotation has been a starter for particularly long or has playoff experience. As we've seen recently, there's a big difference between gutting a game out to say limit to 4 runs over 4 innings compared to completely unraveling like Irvin did. We may not be able to find an ace out there to trade for, but please get a mid rotation guy who's been around the block. -
I think the beauty of this team's forecast is that there doesn't have to be one "all in" year. At least not yet. Corbin Burnes is a difference maker. But so is Felix Bautista. One or two of the Holliday/Mayo/Basallo trio may be, too. -
I think if you are going to ignore PED issues, Bonds probably held the title of greatest living ball player long before Willie Mays died.
