Surprised nobody has mentioned Givens.  ERA is now under 3, K/9 is past the 9.0 threshold, he's got a WHIP of 1.125 (actually below career) and he's got saves.  He may not be the most deserving reliever or player on the Os, but relievers tend to be one of the easier guys to work onto the roster.

I wonder if people on here are thinking he may be traded by then. I know that rumor came out that he was on the market.

For me, it's just not getting many recent impressions of Givens. Sounds like he's pitching much better though. He has a chance.

A lot of it may have to do with where on the roster they can fit guy.  If they have room for a bullpen guy it's probably going to be Givens.  It seems to me the bullpen is the easiest place to hide a player.

I agree, but am hoping that Means continues his great pitching and gets our spot. This guy has come from nowhere and with what people on here are saying about his fastball/change mix, it seems like it's not all smoke and mirrors. I love it.

Yup. I posted those numbers earlier. I'm not expert on the interrelationships between all of those metrics, but I'm not sure they mean what they look like they mean, at least not yet.

I'm specifically looking at the high FB% with a pretty high HR% and a low LD%. My guess is that FIP is anticipating the LD% to go up and may not be anticipating a lower HR rate as a trade off. Pure speculation by me.

Either way, good or bad we're still dealing with SSS here.

I'm telling you all, don't sleep on Davis.

The 0-33 got the internet's attention and he's played well since.  I think an we could see an internet push to vote Davis into the all star game.

There's no chance that Davis gets voted into the All-Star game short of an insane hot streak.

Maybe if he was a Kansas City Royal.

In hopes that some team will trade for him?

Means, Mancini, and DSJ have to all be under consideration.

I'll go with Means as our one rep if he's able to maintain a sub-3 ERA.  There are probably at least half a dozen OF in the AL more deserving than DSJ and Mancini but a sub-3 starter ERA in the AL East cannot be denied.

You do remember Blake Snell last year right?

I mean he did eventually make it, but as an injury replacement.

    • If we don't want to trade one of our big three (or four?) prospects, then focusing on bad contracts or rentals is our only option to salvage this season.  Better to do that than to do nothing.  If we only do rentals, we'll need to add one or more starters over the offseason through free agency.  If Rubinstein has told Elias that he's willing to spend in free agency, then that reduces Elias' need to get a starter who is controllable beyond this year.
    • That STRK column in the standings is very persuasive.  Look elsewhere and you'll see that in spite of the L5 they still have the top run differential in the AL and are closer to the East lead than they were a week ago.
    • This is a mix of hitting two really hot teams, our pitching attrition, and just some bad luck. Everything is not going their way right now.  Sure, I think the rotation needs some help after losing Bradish, Means, Wells and Kremer and yes, Elias should have done more this offseason to sure up this pen (I was saying that all offseason and through spring), but when the team pitches good it doesn't hit and when they score a bunch, their pitching stinks.  This team was not going to continue on a 105-win pace with their pitching injuries, but luckily, the Yankees have not been playing great either after being lights out for awhile (while the Orioles were red-hot).  No this team is not going to go into a giant tailspin where they end up under .500 and yes, they will eventually break out of this. We saw in the schedule this was a tough stretch of opponents and lack of off days and it's just kind of caught up just as they hot two teams getting hot.  They're going to be fine when it comes to making the playoffs. Now, do they have a deep playoff caliber rotation and bullpen? No, I think they need to make moves, move that are going cost some players people don't want to see go, but when you have never drafted and developed a major league pitcher in 5 years of drafting, this is what your strategy was devised for.  Develop the bats, trade/acquire for the arms. Now it's time to see if Elias is able to fulfill his strategy.
    • Not addressing the bullpen other than a stopgap closer in the offseason is kinda coming home to roost now. Doesn't help that Cano and Perez haven't been very good either. The rotation has just been pure bad luck. When your 2/4/5 plus Wells are gone, sooner or later you are going to feel it. Irvin and Suarez have pitched above expectations but you gotta assume they are going to settle into mid-4 ERAs sooner or later. No idea what the front office is going to do by the deadline. It's a sellers market it seems. I will say I hope major moves are made between now and the start of the 25 season, because it is pee or get off the pot with a lot of these guys on the farm.  And if Burnes isn't back, there is a TON of pitching that needs to be added.
