With Matusz already on the 40 man roster it'll make the team a little less hesistant to call him up if we need a starter, a la Loewen getting the call in 2006.

By nature of a major league contract, Matusz has been placed on the 40-man roster and cannot be taken off of it without being exposed to waivers. He could play in the minors through 2012, but likely will be out of minor league options by the spring of 2013.

Unfortunately Matusz will have to be optioned right away. He will have three options remaining for 2009, 2010, and 2011 so he needs to be in the bigs by 2012.

With his talent he should be in the majors for good in 2010. He's a ton more polished than Loewen was, so a ML contract isn't a big deal.

If he isn't in the bigs by 2012, one of 2 things has happened:

1) Lots of injuries.

2) He sucks.

If he is as advanced as they say, he should start in Bowie and be ready to come up next year at some point.
