Anyone think Elias punishment incoming?

Sorry if this is in another thread but I didn't see it anywhere quickly...

With the fallout of the Astros problems reaching other clubs now, is anyone afraid or think that we could get hit by way of Elias or Mejdal? I think it is in the realm of possibilities but I would imagine we would have heard something by now...

No. They were not involved.

Why would I be afraid?  How about more likely the Astros way is a fraud.  Cheating to know the pitch help their batters and foreign substances on the ball to improve their pitching.  That is what you should be afraid of.

I don't know if we can say this 100%. Just like we can't really say they definitely were involved. Manfred didn't "clear" Elias in the same manner as Jim Crane, he's just not mentioned in the report. We don't know.

Manfred says this:

"Some lower-level Astros employees were aware of the rules violations or participated in the violations at the direction of others. I will defer to the Astros whether the conduct of these more junior employees merits discipline or other remedial action."

Personally, I don't really think it matters if Elias knew or not. He was in charge of scouting. If the Director of Scouting walked into the clubhouse and demanded that it stop, the players probably weren't going to listen. That was Luhnow and Hinch's job. That's why those two were punished.

Either way, I wouldn't expect any punishment for Elias - unless something that is damning leaks in the future, which is super super doubtful.

On September 15, 2017, Manfred sent a letter to all general managers and managers in which he said that discovery of the use of technology for the purpose of stealing signs would result in substantial punishment. I think the fact that the letter was sent only to GMs and managers is why no one else has been (or will be) punished by MLB.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he was involved and eventually punished. He was with the Cardinals when La Russa allegedly had a system in place, and then was taken to the Astros with Luhnow. He certainly knew what was happening. I guess all of this has been shocking so it wouldn’t even shock me anymore if it turns out ME was the mastermind behind it all

Stranger things have happened in the universe. But it's highly doubtful for the director of scouting to be the mastermind of a cheating ring.
