Touched 101 during his 5th.  Cruising, pitch count seems very low.  Hoping for another inning or two.

Only 61 pitches but at least they let him go five so he's 3-0.

Bishop with four shutout innings of relief. He's having a great year. Maybe he can give the Orioles another lefty long man by midseason next year.

Grayson took his hat/glove/belt buckle checks like a pro after the 2nd and 4th innings.

It seemed clear he could have shoved another couple few innings, but I guess 5-up-downs regardless of how few pitches was the order of the day.

He did catch a lineup break with Martin on DL and the backup catcher spotting in for Moreno - the Fisher Cats were probably kind of fat and happy with the first four days work.

Minorleaguebaseball player page now reflecting 685 cumulative NP in his first 10 starts.   I'm sure he no longer trails SWR in K-BB%; bottom of Baysox lineup hit him pretty well after he matched Rodriguez with an excellent 1st.   It was nice seeing Stowers with a clean opposite field single in the initial 2nd inning rally off a good AA pitcher.

I guess 2 more turns before Futures Game - maybe tough to attain Level 3 before that, but we'll see after that.   He's not giving the club much wiggle room with the pitch count to give anything like "he needs a break", etc.

It's pretty clear that the Grayson to Adley combo is the best battery at any level of the O's organization.  And next is probably Hall to Adley.

Continuing enjoyable cherry-picking with Grayson now at 5 AA starts, a cohort of 50 pitchers in his league.

Estimated K-BB% up to third place tie with DL Hall and Roansy Contreras.   I was a little bugged when the Yankees got Taillon for 2021-2022, but Pirates may have picked a good one.   The top two here are 25 year olds.

ERA - 4th of 50 (including trailing #1 Kevin Smith)

K% - 5th of 50 (behind Hall, the 25-year-olds, and Luis Gil a promising Yankee)

H/9 - 5th of 50.

The Futures Game is Sunday 7/11, so it probably lines up Baysox-wise for him to pitch Thursday/Friday-ish at Akron, then a back at home (farewell?) Tuesday/Wednesday-ish turn v. Richmond.   Both Akron and Richmond are within a few games of Bowie now in the Northeast-Southwest.    Couple more chances to ponder baseball's mysteries like what happens if he gets 15 outs in 47 pitches, and will we ever in 2021 get to discover what happens at 80, 90, etc.   

Week after Futures - Bowie goes to Erie and Norfolk goes to Memphis.    Memphis seems...nicer than Erie?

Not the smoothest outing for Grayson tonight: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K’s.  He allowed 2 unearned runs in the first and a solo homer in the second before settling in.   They let him throw 83 pitches, 62 for strikes.

I have no idea if Akron's gun is fast or slow, but Grayson was mostly 97-98 for the first three innings, touching 99 once. Fourth inning he started to hit 96 a couple of times and in the fifth he was 95-96. He threw a ton of strikes--probably too many. Only time they flashed the pitch breakdown for Grayson, he was at 75% strikes thrown. Akron's plan was clearly to swing early and often and they put a lot of balls in play. Grayson might have benefited from being around the zone more and burning a few more pitches to see if he could get chases.

Other notes from the game:

Cadyn Greiner's home run was a no-doubter off the bat. He crushed it to right-center, probably went at least 400 feet. He had an error in the first where a bouncer he ranged to his right for went off his glove. Not the easiest play, but one a good shortstop needs to make. After that he put on a defensive clinic. He had about three highlight reel plays, two of which were tough ground balls he fielded and flipped to second to try and start a double play. Runners were barely safe at first both times. Cullen's throws from second weren't the greatest, but it might not have mattered. The Akron fans near me were very impressed with Greiner's D and one turned to me and asked if he always played like that. If the newfound ability to hit is real, he could be something special.

Tyler Joyner was throwing 90, but it looked like about 80 after watching Grayson.

It was some kid's tenth birthday party and the guy running the between inning "entertainment" had the whole stadium sing him happy birthday. After he realized all eyes and the camera were on him, the kid started doing the worm. Everybody got a real kick out of that. Tons of laughter

Game rained out Saturday. I assume he pitches Sunday in Game 2, but no pitcher is listed.

Depends has he also given up 3 HR?

Just glad they let him go five.

I'm just picturing the 2023 Hangout wondering why he can't maintain velocity past the fourth inning.
