Correa (Update, signs with Twins)

QUESTION MARK
Perhaps the biggest knock against Correa is his inconsistent offensive production on a year-to-year basis. After recording a .349 wOBA or higher in each of his first three seasons, Correa has finished at .313, .380, .309 and .364, respectively in the past four years (MLB average was .314 in 2021), though it’s fair to note that one of his “down” years was the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

2020 was a wacky year for everyone.  Players "broke out" then tanked in 2021.  Players bombed then rebounded in 2021.  Games were missed, rescheduled, cardboard fans...  Just a mess all around.  It's hard to take 2020 data seriously.

O's in the "No, Won't Be Here" category.

One of 5 least likely teams, per this article.

Seems kind of lazy to rank the Yankees at #3 most likely landing spot after they already added Donaldson, Kiner-Falefa, and Rizzo to their infield with Torres, LeMahieu, and (maybe) Voit, and with extension talks with Judge looming.

It's funny because the guy right next to him on that list, Francisco Lindor, has the exact same type of deal Correa desires (10 years, $350ish million) and it looks like a massive mistake on the Mets part.

It’s the kind of deal the Mets can afford to lose on at the end. We don’t have that luxury.

My concern with Correa would be his health and not worrying about his 2020 season, which amounts to a small sample size statistically.

If he is to believed, working on an Adley extension as well.

Like I said, one of the reasons he may not have accepted the offer (if it was offered) was a lack of opt out.  It makes sense that he wants one and will get one.

I mean you can pay the league minimum the next four years.  How much of a discount is really there?

If you think he'll worth keeping long term, you amortize the league min control years into a discounted four years after that.

Sign him for 8, at a substantial discount.

If he wants to live the good life now and offset his risk... he'll take it. Some players do, as we've learned recently.

And of course the risk to the O's, is that he'd get hurt.

All in all. probably a risk worth taking
